A hundred people work in the field:

The technology and telecommunications company reinstated 1,200 accounts suspended due to debts, and delivered bags of minutes and gigabytes to more than 120 thousand prepaid customers residing in the affected communities.

Although there are still several fire outbreaks in the Valparaíso Region, Entel reported that 97% of the network in the region is now operating normally, and is deploying a comprehensive support plan for all the people living in the affected communities.

Entel’s Director of Public Affairs, Claudio Anabalón, said that the technology and telecommunications company is deployed in the territory to work on the continuity of the service, redoubling efforts to stabilize the signal, thanks to the work of a hundred people who are on the ground, who have allowed people to stay connected in a situation of extreme complexity.

Regarding the support measures for customers who are in the area, he explained that “we have restored the service of 1,200 accounts that were in debt, belonging to customers who live in the affected communities; we are giving bags of minutes and more gigabytes of navigation to another 121 thousand customers who are prepaid customers; and we delivered 5,000 simcards that are available to the authorities so that they can support the victims, for example. We also sent four additional mobile cars to reinforce connectivity, and we continue to communicate with other companies so that national emergency roaming remains active for the next 15 days”.

Given the emergency situation, in order to maintain greater network availability during emergencies or in the event of signal intermittency, Anabalón reiterated the call to the population to prefer the use of SMS (text message) instant messaging to send information to their relatives. He also asked that if other communication applications such as WhatsApp - which require mobile data - are used, only text messages should be sent and to avoid sending videos and photos.

Additionally, whether or not Entel customers, the company recommends activating emergency roaming (when there is no signal with the operator) “as it is a system that allows the user to connect to another mobile network regardless of the company you have, and in this way they can connect -if the operator allows it- for calls, text messages or data connection and call 133, telephone service that handles emergencies reported by citizens. The spirit of this measure is that nobody is disconnected”, explained Entel’s Director of Public Affairs.

Regarding the current state of the infrastructure, Anabalón indicated that most of the antennas with service problems have been due to the action of the fire that also affected the electric energy, and assured that they will remain alert and continuously monitor the situation to offer the best service to the population so that they can stay connected with their families, authorities and emergency support personnel.
