In the framework of the XII version of the National Innovation Award (Avonni), the autonomous robot Zippedi, won the award in the Entel Digital Services category.
The award was presented at a ceremony held at TVN and attended by ministers, regional authorities and personalities from the business and academic world, in addition to the winners in the 14 categories of the award organized by Fundación ForoInnovación, the Ministry of Economy, El Mercurio and TVN.
The autonomous robot Zippedi is a mobile robotic system that monitors supermarket shelves, a highly relevant task for retail, which has historically been carried out manually with inaccurate results. Using artificial intelligence, the robot navigates the aisles of large stores detecting product out-of-stocks, incorrect or missing prices and misplaced products.
“We are very happy with this Avonni award, which serves as a showcase to demonstrate that cutting-edge technology can be developed in Chile. Sometimes we don’t believe we are capable, but we have shown that it can be done. Hopefully this will serve as an inspiration for others" commented Álvaro Soto, founding partner of Zippedi.
Currently, the company’s customers are the main national supermarket chains, and it also has a presence in Ecuador and Colombia, in addition to advanced conversations with one of the most important retail chains in the United States.
“The truth is that we have cutting-edge technology made in Chile, in a country that has first-class people who can compete. When we founded Zipeddi, our plan was to make it international and today we have projects in several South American countries. Also, two of the top five retail companies in the world are our customers" , added Ariel Schilkrut, co-founder of Zipeddi.
For Carlos Rodríguez, Entel’s Innovation Manager, “we are on the verge of the fourth industrial revolution, which is generating changes in people in terms of how they communicate and relate to companies, which will undoubtedly generate great challenges for the future”. He added that for Entel it is of great importance to support innovation in the country: “Being part of the Avonni awards in the Entel Digital Services category is part of our commitment to bring the infinite possibilities that technology gives and contribute to the responsible transformation of our society”.
Avonni Awards 2018
Under the slogan “Innovate for the world”, a new version of the Avonni Awards was held, which had 11 categories for competition, plus the recognition of three regional ventures and the Anacleto Angelini Innovative Trajectory Award, which was in the hands of the founding team of Cornershop. In addition, an unprecedented award was given to the Innovative Woman, which recognizes the innovative contribution of Chilean women.
“The key to successful innovation is to do it with the world in mind. Innovation tends to be focused on local solutions that in our country do not necessarily reach a critical mass. The challenge is to look at the world as an opportunity and for Chile to start thinking globally", said Raúl Rivera, president and founder of Fundación ForoInnovación, to draw attention to the urgency of giving a new dynamism to innovation in Chile.
