The telecommunications company Entel will provide connectivity to the 7,000 athletes attending the Pan American Games, the more than 2,000 athletes coming to the Parapan American Games, the same number of officials of the organizing committee and will ensure the mobile experience for the public in all venues distributed in the Metropolitan, Valparaíso, O’Higgins and Biobío regions.


The agreement was sealed at the company’s corporate building in Parque Titanium in Las Condes, and will be formalized with the delivery of 11,000 recycled plastic SIM cards with gigabyte plans and unlimited minutes valid for one month, keeping athletes and staff connected with their families, friends and coaches.


“We are proud to work with Santiago 2023, we have been in the great events and moments of the country since our inception, we are a company and a brand whose purpose is to connect people, bring them technology, bring it closer to their possibilities and enhance the talents of people as in the case of athletes”, said Antonio Büchi, general manager of Entel.


Along the same lines, the executive director of Santiago 2023, Harold Mayne-Nicholls, indicated that “having a company of these characteristics, a leader in telecommunications and technology, helps us and allows us to provide superior communication, to have more possibilities of contact and to make the Games something in which we can all be connected, to reach the whole country and the world” .


Athletes highlighted the innovation of ensuring connectivity in the Games


At the signing ceremony, members of Team Chile and Para Chile were also present. Para badminton player Daniela Zapata said that “when we go to competitions outside the country we have to ask for wifi everywhere. I have been to other Parapan American competitions and we have never had the possibility of having access to a chip to be in contact either within the Village or with our families, it is a super good idea, I find it very innovative and I am proud that it has been in Chile”..


Meanwhile, triple jumper Luis Reyes said that “this agreement makes life easier for all athletes, especially those who come from abroad and connect with their people. In my case, once I finish an event, the first people I call and ‘whatsapp’ are my parents to tell them how I did”..


The Pan American and Parapan American Games, as a whole, will be held in four regions and 44 communes of the country, bringing together more than 9,000 athletes and Para athletes from 41 nations of the continent from October 20 to November 26.
