Entel, the telecommunications and technology company, activated its plan named “Primera Respuesta Entel” (in English Entel’s “First Response” program) for its customers in the Biobío region, which has been affected by heavy rains in the last few hours.
In this way, the company will restore mobile and fiber home services for customers in debt and will suspend cuts for unpaid bills until June 27, so that people can stay connected during the weather emergency.
Entel’s Sustainability and Communications Manager, Francisca Florenzano, explained that “in addition to our obligation and challenge to monitor our network in emergency situations such as we are experiencing, we have activated and made available to our customers a package of support measures to facilitate their communication during this critical event. Our role as a telecommunications and technology company is to enable the connection of Chileans, especially in contingencies such as the one we are experiencing due to this frontal system”.
This measure is in addition to the activation of the National Emergency Roaming announced by the government which, in case of unavailability of the mobile network of the operator, allows the user to connect to the nearest mobile network regardless of the telephone company to which it belongs.
How to activate emergency roaming?
If the client is located in any of the municipalities affected by the floods and has mobile connectivity failures, he/she can activate the National Emergency Roaming.
To do so, when located in the coverage area of the other company’s site, through the phone’s configuration, the desired network must be manually selected.
Once registered in roaming, the user will be able to call, browse and send SMS without inconveniences, with a cost equivalent to the use of his own company’s network, without additional charges.
Android: go to Settings - click on the More option - go to Mobile Networks - select Network Operators - deactivate the Automatic option - select Network Operator.
IOs: access Settings - click on the Cellular Data option - click on Network Selection - deactivate the Automatic option - select Network Operator.
When returning to the coverage area of his carrier, the customer can call, surf and send SMS without any problems from his home network.
