One year after the official launch of the 5G network in the country, Entel consolidates its deployment of this technology and 1,087,118 customers can make use of this network.
Of the 270 communes that have Entel’s 5G coverage, according to a company report carried out during November, the ones with the highest traffic in this network are the communes of Las Condes (119,092 GB), Santiago (91,326 GB), Providencia (53,576 GB), La Florida (27,594 GB) and Ñuñoa (22,427 GB). At the national level, the cities of Temuco (12,772 GB), Viña del Mar (10,947 GB), Rancagua (9,684 GB), Iquique (9,174 GB) and Antofagasta (8,636 GB) stand out.
In these 365 days already 10% of Entel’s total connections are in this new technology. About the applications most used by users with 5G equipment are social networks and streaming, highlighting Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok and Netflix. Regarding data traffic, on average an Entel customer consumes 20.7 GB, of which 5.4 GB are in the 5G network.
According to the latest Subtel report, published in June, Entel leads 5G connections in Chile with 63% of the total nationwide.
“Our commitment has always been to bring 5G closer to the greatest number of people, in the shortest possible time, because we understand connectivity as a basic enabler for the inclusion of people, contributing to the development of the country. Thus, the speed of deployment of this technology has been significantly faster than in previous experiences. In any case, the consolidation of 5G will be seen gradually, as the network and the next stages of deployment are consolidated”, said Manuel Araya, Entel’s Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs.
Entel’s announced investment in 5G for the period 2021-2023 is US$350 million, and they expect to continue moving forward with the second phase.
Another aspect that has attracted attention is the speed with which the number of 5G users in Entel’s network surpassed one million, a figure that was reached in October only 10 months after its launch. In the case of the 3G network, it took 57 months to reach this number and with 4G it took 19 months to reach this figure.
On the other hand, the company offers 89 cellular models that can be connected to 5G, and in October they represented 57% of total sales. In addition, 5 of these devices are among the 10 most purchased. The Samsung A22, iPhone 13 128 GB, Xiaomi Redmi 10, Samsung A52s, and Samsung Galaxy A53 are the most purchased devices by customers between January and November, demonstrating that this technology is already compatible in various ranges of smartphones.
It is worth remembering that the minimum latency, higher download speed and the possibility of working as an enabler of other technologies are some of the experiences that the one million Entel users who already have 5G terminals can live.
To connect to 5G, you need to have a phone compatible with this technology. All Entel customers, both prepaid and subscription can access this new network.
