The initiative, promoted by Entel and the Intendencia de Tarapacá, aims to transmit to social leaders the main functionalities of mobile devices and social networks in crisis situations.

The workshop was guided by the emergency expert Michel De L’Herbe, who gave practical advice on how to organize oneself in the face of these scenarios.

In emergency conditions, such as natural disasters, mobile devices and social networks have become useful tools for people to get information and communicate.

That is why Entel, together with the Intendancy of Tarapacá and the emergency expert, Michel De L’Herbe, held today the workshop “Technology, security and the leadership role”, which taught more than 250 neighborhood leaders of Tarapacá to correctly use mobile devices and social networks, so that they can search for the correct information and the best response alternatives in the face of the different catastrophes that may occur. In addition, it was explained to them how the Emergency Alert System for cell phones operates.

“At Entel we are aware of the importance that social networks and technology have when facing an emergency. For this reason, it is extremely important for us to provide social leaders with tools so that they can manage more effectively and safely when faced with an emergency, which will allow them to coordinate among themselves and support their community”, said Katherine Martorell, Entel’s Director of Sustainability.

[

Norma Gómez, president of the Junta de Vecinos Playa Brava N°14, said: “Here in the northern zone we are exposed to many risks, whether from the sea, tsunamis or earthquakes. This source of information is very important and relevant for us, especially because we have people who are abandoned in these situations. Therefore, we have to teach them, because people are not prepared”.

[

Michel De L’Herbe commented: “Today’s organizational systems range from the local to the general; from the community to the municipalities. When we are in an area like this, with great distances and risks of natural disasters, teaching the community about the use of technology and its tools helps us not only to be responsible with oneself, but also with the rest of the people, since the good management of these technologies can help to protect and save lives.”

[

“We live in a place where we are exposed to diverse emergencies caused by nature, therefore, it is very important to make good use of the available technology and learn how to use it to communicate correctly and thus better face our emergencies” señaló el Intendente(s) de la Región de Tarapacá, Francisco Pinto, quien agregó: “It is very valuable that our social leaders learn this, so that they can replicate it in their territories”.
