•The initiative, promoted by Entel, sought to show neighborhood leaders in the area the main advantages of mobile devices and social networks in crisis conditions.

•The workshop was guided by the emergency expert Michel De L’Herbe, who gave practical advice for these situations.

In emergency conditions, such as natural disasters, mobile devices and social networks have become a useful tool for people to communicate and be properly informed about what is happening.

For this reason, and in the context of the earthquake that affected the island of Chiloé on December 25, Entel held today the workshop “Emergency management and technology in the leadership role”. The program, which mainly counted with the participation of the emergency expert Michel De L’Herbe, who taught about 150 neighborhood leaders of Chiloé how to correctly use mobile devices and social networks, so that they can search for the correct information and the best response alternatives in the face of the different catastrophes that may occur.

“At Entel we are aware of the importance that social networks and technology have when facing an emergency. For this reason, it is extremely important for us to provide tools to social leaders so that they can manage more effectively and safely when faced with an emergency, which will allow them to coordinate among themselves and support their community,” said Katherine Martorell, Entel’s Director of Sustainability and Communities.

[

Michel De L’Herbe commented that “it is key to have an adequate communications plan. To do this we must anticipate, wish for the best and prepare for the worst. In a hyperconnected society we must make responsible and supportive use of our mobile devices and networks, especially when it comes to the massification of reliable information”.

[

Meanwhile, Daniel Pantoja, president of the Federation of Rural Communal Unions of Chiloé, said:“This shows that our organization is very strong. We are happy to have called our people to a very useful meeting, especially because of the importance of the use of social networks in natural disasters”.
