The initiative, promoted by Entel and the Municipality of Santiago, aims to transmit to social leaders the main functionalities of mobile devices and social networks in crisis situations.

The workshop was guided by the emergency expert Michel De L’Herbe, who gave practical advice on how to organize oneself in the face of these scenarios.

In emergency conditions, such as natural disasters, mobile devices and social networks have become useful tools for people to get information, communicate and coordinate with each other.

That is why Entel, together with the Municipality of Santiago and the expert in emergencies, Michel De L’Herbe, held today the workshop “Technology, security and the leadership role”, which taught 250 neighborhood leaders of the municipality to correctly use mobile devices and social networks, so that they can find the right information and the best response alternatives in the face of the different catastrophes that may occur. In addition, it was explained to them how the Emergency Alert System for cell phones operates.

“At Entel we are aware of the importance that social networks and technology have when facing an emergency. For this reason, it is extremely important for us to provide social leaders with tools so that they can manage more effectively and safely when faced with an emergency, which will allow them to coordinate among themselves and support their community”, said Patricia Muñoz, Entel’s Director of Sustainability and Communities.

[

For his part, the mayor of Santiago, Felipe Alessandri, highlighted the importance of the activity. “This workshop is fundamental so that all the leaders attending can take into account the role that technology has for their function as neighborhood leaders, especially in cases of emergencies, such as earthquakes. Chile is a country where catastrophes occur and in our municipality we have experienced many emergencies and the organization and use of new tools can help us save lives.”

“Today’s organizational systems go from the local to the general; from the community to the municipalities. When we are in an area like Santiago, very large and highly populated, teaching people about the use of technology and its tools helps us not only to be responsible with oneself, but also with the rest of the people, since the good management of these technologies can help to protect and save lives”, commented De L’Herbe.
