This morning, Entel and the Catholic University of Milan presented the seventh edition of the Sustainable Journalism Award (PESU), which aims to recognize the best journalistic work on sustainability issues, highlighting the best works in the print, TV and web categories.
Among the winners in each category, the jury chose the grand winner of the 2015 PESU, which went to Daniel Silva, a journalist at TVN, for his report “Wheelchairs”.
The jury highlighted that the report tackled sustainability from a social dimension, with an original and integrating point of view, a great script and a remarkable technical level, as well as a respectful treatment of the subject.
The main prize includes a one-week internship in Italy at the Catholic University of Milan in 2016.
Bárbara Riedemann, from Paula Magazine, won the Written Press Report category with “Wetlands in danger”; Paula Aguilera, also from Paula Magazine, won the Written Press Chronicle category with ‘The man who saves leftover food’; Daniel Silva, from TVN, won the TV Chronicle category with ‘Vegetables’; and Carmen Aguilar, from 24H, won the Web category with “Know how much money you lose when you throw food away”.
The awards ceremony, held at Entel’s headquarters and attended by Manuel Araya, Entel’s regulatory and corporate affairs manager, and Marco Lombardi, director of the School of Journalism at the Catholic University of Milan, aims to recognize those who, through their journalistic work, contribute to building a more harmonious and inclusive society and highlight initiatives related to sustainability.
“At PESU, we want to recognize the contribution of journalists and the media to building a more sustainable world. The role they play in bringing to light relevant and innovative viewpoints and valuable initiatives in such broad areas of sustainability as technology, innovation, environment and social issues, among many others, is fundamental for the community. This is a view that we as a company are constantly promoting,” said Manuel Araya, Entel’s Manager of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs.
Meanwhile, Marco Lombardi, Director of the School of Journalism at the Catholic University of Milan, said: “The seventh edition of the PESU Prize, with the inclusion of works from Peru, marks an international breakthrough, which is also a founding perspective of our project. Today we are celebrating an innovative model that promotes journalism on sustainability issues. Year after year, the PESU confirms a successful partnership between Entel and the Catholic University of Milan, which brings social benefits such as the award itself and the cultural exchange between the juries, the finalists and the winners”.
This year, for the first time, PESU’s participation was opened to print media from Peru. The winner in this category was Gabriela Machuca, from Somos magazine, with her work “La bolsa o la vida”, which addresses the issue of the excessive use of plastic bags and their impact on the environment.
