In an increasingly digitized world, in which people and consumers conduct much of their lives online, the protection of personal data takes on greater relevance and value, as it allows the development of experiences designed according to the needs of each individual.
At the same time, consumers, more aware of the importance and the need to take care of themselves, have begun to be wary of who to give them to and for what purpose. In this context, companies have begun to use this valuable information to deliver an increasingly personalized service to their customers, who seem to be seeing the value of providing this data.
As a result of this new scenario, the technology and telecommunications company Entel, together with the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Chile (CNC) and the law firm Magliona Abogados, have created the “Guide to Personal Data Protection”, which provides information regarding regulatory compliance with data protection, giving examples, guiding how SMEs can make proper use of their customers’ data and how to manage it in the best way, necessarily incorporating the safeguarding of their privacy.
“The protection of personal data has become very important, even more so when we have seen that a large part of the population has turned to digital platforms during the pandemic months. This is why customers expect companies to take care and make proper use of their data, and to use it for the purposes for which it was given. Only in this way will it be possible to build a relationship of loyalty and trust between the consumer and the company", said Tristán Riquelme, marketing and product manager of Entel Empresas.
This is how the “Personal Data Protection Guide” easily teaches what personal data is, how a small and medium-sized company can and should treat the information provided by its customers and, at the same time, provide a higher quality service, strengthen its business and differentiate itself.
“Personal information and data today have a very high value as an intangible asset for all companies, being even more important than the tangible infrastructure. There are ethical, technical and legal responsibilities that companies must learn to integrate into their processes, regardless of their size”, said Nicolás Yuraszeck of Magliona Abogados.
“In the current times, in which digital commerce has become increasingly relevant, all companies are implementing digital channels, since e-commerce is here to stay and is the necessary complement to face-to-face commerce. That is why personal data have a very high value as an intangible asset for companies, since this information will allow them, especially SMEs, to know and retain customers. But the handling of this information means that we must also be extremely responsible in the proper treatment of this data. With this in mind, we have prepared this guide especially for SMEs that are beginning their digitalization process, so that they can transmit the necessary confidence that customer information will be handled in a secure, transparent and responsible manner", said Manuel Melero, president of the CNC.
This guide can be downloaded for free here and was presented at the Entel Empresas 2020, Diálogos de Futuro Meeting, where small and medium-sized companies had access to this and other information on cybersecurity, collaboration and digitalization.
