Hydroscada, the online flow measurement system for open channels and groundwater, designed for agribusiness and agricultural properties whose water rights are registered, was this year’s winner of the Avonni National Innovation Award in the ICT Entel category.
The award was presented at a ceremony held on TVN and attended by various government authorities, including the Minister of the Interior, Mario Fernández.
Hydroscada allows real-time measurement of instantaneous flow rates and recording of the accumulated volume of water withdrawn. Through the installation of high-tech hardware and software programmed according to the water rights registered, data is visualized on a web platform that provides accurate information in real time, with accessibility from any smartphone.
In addition, data can be obtained through periodic reports, programmable time series and synoptic map, increasing water control and preventing theft. Hydroscada seeks to be a contribution in the care of water, as well as in the democratization of this resource.
“For Hydroscada, the 2017 Avonni Award means a recognition to the creation and capabilities we have in Chile to develop high-level technological solutions. Our bet has always been the integration of technologies applied to the needs of the industry, such as energy efficiency and the efficient use of water, which is an irreplaceable resource that we must take care of, measure and control. We hope that this 2017 Avonni Award will encourage us as a Chilean company to massify digital literacy in the industry, and to contribute to training in universities and technical schools, to strengthen academic training in Chile,” said Arturo Valdés, co-creator of Hydroscada.
Sebastián Domínguez, VP of Transformation and Business Support at Entel, said that “being part of the Avonni awards with the Entel ICT category is part of our commitment to collaborate with the country’s innovation and a way to transform our society in a responsible way. During the eleven years of this award, the level of the projects that have been presented has always been outstanding, which we see in the development achieved by the winners of previous editions, impacting society in diverse and always positive ways”.

Under this premise, the XI version of the National Innovation Award, Avonni, was held, organized by the ForoInnovación Foundation, El Mercurio newspaper, TVN and the Ministry of Economy, with the support of CORFO, an opportunity where the winners of the 15 competition categories were also recognized, and the Avonni Anacleto Angelini Innovative Trajectory Award was presented. With them, there are now a total of 150 winners throughout the history of the award.
“This year we wanted to highlight two concepts that have run through the entire process of selecting winners. In the first place, we want to invite to amplify innovation, that is, to spread and integrate the whole society to install that this is the way to lead the country to overcome inequality. And, secondly, we want to make visible that in Chile we have many talents that have managed to “make it”, but that are totally invisible to the majority of the country. We want to cheer them and celebrate them so that they feel proud to be Chilean innovators” , said Isidora Undurraga, executive director of Fundación ForoInnovación.
