Netflix presented the results of its latest ranking of Internet Service Provider (ISP) speeds. Entel ranked as the telecommunications operator that offers the fastest Fixed Internet in Chile and with the best performance for viewing content on its platform during prime time.
The Netflix ISP Speed Index measures the performance of different internet service providers in Chile and around the world, including the average bit rate at prime time for content viewing.
And, according to the results published on Netflix’s official website (updated to July 2018), Entel’s fiber optic service ranked first with an average speed of 4.44 megabytes per second (Mbps), beating the main players in this market, such as Movistar, VTR and GTD.
Entel’s Fibra Hogar
Entel began in 2017 the deployment of its fiber optic service to the home, to meet the high internet consumption that currently exists within homes in Chile -and that will increase over time-, which made a high-speed connection necessary in the residential segment.
“The large number of devices that are connected at home, added to the consumption of content, which has gone from traditional linear channels to on-demand consumption, is changing the connectivity requirements in a home” explained Entel’s People Market Manager, Matías del Campo.
In this sense, he emphasized that Entel’s internet offer covers the current challenges of services, with high download and upload speeds, with maximum speeds of up to 400 Mbps, without fees. It is already present in the communes of Vitacura, Las Condes, Providencia, La Reina, Ñuñoa, San Miguel and Maipú, among others.
In relation to the consumption of on-demand content, he indicated that Entel sees it as a complement to the traditional television service and is currently the only operator in the country that offers Netflix and YouTube in the set-top box, with direct access from the remote control.
