Second workshop organized by Entel:

• Neighborhood leaders from Region IX participated in a training workshop that provided them with a set of tools to better understand the use of mobile technologies and how to use them for community work.

• The initiative, organized by the Regional Intendencia and Entel, also aims to strengthen leadership and communication in the communities.

More than 300 neighborhood leaders from all the municipalities of the Araucanía region attended the second edition of the “Technology and Leadership” training workshop, aimed at bringing new technologies closer to their daily lives and integrating them into their work to strengthen community work.

Leaders attended practical sessions to learn about the potential of social networks - such as Whatsapp, Twitter and Facebook - and how they can be used to great effect in their community work. They also learned how to use the various applications available on mobile phones.

“At Entel we have a strong commitment to communities and their sustainable development. We are proud to support the neighborhood leaders of La Araucanía and we hope that this workshop will be a step towards bringing them closer to mobile technologies so that they can strengthen their important role,” said Katherine Martorell, Entel’s Director of Sustainability and Communities.

For his part, the director of La Araucanía, Andrés Jouannett, said: “This is a work we are doing with the leaders so that they can have access to information and communication technologies. Today, illiteracy is no longer a fundamental problem in our country, but if people do not have access to information technologies, they are illiterate from a technological point of view, and that is what we want to do with this workshop: to link social leaders to ICT so that they can use it as a tool for their organizations, which is very important,” said the regional authority.

The meeting, held at the Hotel Frontera, also included a presentation by Alejandro Pujá, President of Odecu Libertador, on behalf of ODEUC, who spoke about the rights and responsibilities of citizens with regard to the services provided by telecommunications companies.
