The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Andrés Gómez-Los Sauces, together with the Mayor of Purén, Jorge Rivera Leal, and Manuel Araya, Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs of Entel, came to inaugurate the voice and data connectivity services that, from today, users and neighbors of this route will be able to enjoy for the first time, thanks to the considerations required to Entel in the bidding process for the use of the 700 MHz band.
In the case of La Araucanía, the connectivity program will benefit 213 municipalities, 116 educational institutions and 203 kilometers of road, where the R-182, R-444 2 and R-90-P sections will soon be added to the Purén-Los Sauces route.
“The inauguration of the service on this route contributes to the improvement of the coverage of the area and shows that we are reaching isolated places where it was practically impossible before. It also represents a significant step forward in our mission to reduce the digital divide in the country, promote geographic and social inclusion and involve all citizens in this process”, said Minister Andrés Gómez-Lobo.
Reducing the digital divide and connecting rural and isolated areas of the country is part of the work being carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, which, through the 700 MHz band competition, has managed to provide connectivity on the route between the towns of Purén and Los Sauces, the first of four routes in the region that will have this type of communication.
The mayor of Purén, Jorge Rivera, appreciated the work done and the importance of communication in rural areas: “We are grateful for the Minister’s presence in our community and we express our happiness for this important event. The inauguration of this voice and data antenna is very important in terms of connectivity for the neighbors of Purén, we will continue on this path with the strong support of our government, which has supported us in all the actions we have undertaken as a municipality and as the Nahuelbuta region”.
Entel’s Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs, Manuel Araya, emphasized the importance of providing connectivity not only to rural or isolated places in the country, but also to the routes that connect them. “This is a new and important step in our commitment to work so that people are better connected, no matter where they live, and to contribute to the development of communities and the improvement of the quality of life of Chileans, in a world where technology brings us closer and makes us equal”, he said.
This initiative directs the companies that have been awarded the project to provide mobile telephony and network data transmission to 1,281 remote localities and 13 mandatory routes totaling more than 850 kilometers, in addition to 503 educational institutions.
In the case of Entel, the second phase of its “Conectando Chile” program, which is the result of the investment commitments made by the company in the 700 MHz network tender, provides for the connection of 549 rural or isolated localities in Chile, 91 of which are in the Araucanía region, 212 schools and 373 kilometers of roads.
