La Moneda Cultural Center is coming to the region for the first time. Today, together with Entel, it held an interactive class for 31 students from the Augusto Santelices Valenzuela School, in Licantén, with the aim of bringing technology closer to the youngest students through virtual reality experiences.

The objective of the “Culture en route” project, inaugurated today at the Augusto Santelices Valenzuela School, in Licantén, is to give students the opportunity to get to know the Imperial China exhibition, which was held with great success in Santiago, through the use of virtual reality technologies.

The initiative, led by Entel and La Moneda Cultural Center, was developed through an interactive class on Imperial China for 31 seventh grade students of the school. Each student received specially designed glasses to view the content, in addition to being guided throughout the activity by two experts in the use of this technology.

The students were able to tour in first person the exhibition “The Forbidden City, Imperial China”, which for the first time came to different regions, and which in 2016 had more than 300,000 visitors when it was held at La Moneda Cultural Center. Guided virtually by an entertaining narrator, children were able to learn about political, social and cultural aspects of public and private life at the time.

“At Entel, our goal is to unite all Chileans in an innovative way and always at the forefront of technology. Giving children the possibility of accessing cultural activities through technology, such as virtual reality allows us not only to connect them with new ways of learning, but also to contribute to reducing the digital divide,” , said Fernanda Ribero, Entel’s Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs.

For his part, Alex Meza, coordinator of the Education and Audiences area of La Moneda Cultural Center, said that“this initiative promotes crossings between universal culture and local culture for children and their schools, based on an inclusive and quality educational experience. It allows the development of curiosity and appreciation of local and universal heritage, strengthening skills of aesthetic appreciation and encouraging dialogue and reflection”.

“We are happy to have such an important exhibition in our municipality as “Imperial China” and to be able to teach our children about these topics through virtual reality. This technology allows us to present new contents to the students in a didactic and modern way and motivates us to dream of having this type of teaching methods here someday,”, said Marcelo Fernández, Mayor of Licantén.

The “Culture on the Road” project will be replicated during the next few months in Coyhaique, Punta Arenas and Chonchi and it is estimated that in total it will benefit more than 100 children.
