• Today was the culmination of this meeting, with 70% female participation, a gender focus that was emphasized throughout the initiative.

• The event aimed to position the importance of computer science at a social level, promoting digital skills as a key element for the future of young people.

After five days of activities, Programming Week - Jóvenes ON! came to an end, an initiative that aims to promote programming, robotics and entrepreneurship among young people, and to position digital skills as a key element in society.

The event, organized by Everis Chile and Entel and sponsored by CORFO, was attended by 300 students from the Belén Educa Foundation’s network of schools, 70 percent of whom were female. This is particularly important given that, according to the Asociación Chilena de Empresas de Tecnología de Información (ACTI), only 5% of professionals and technicians in the sector are women, a figure that initiatives such as Jóvenes ON! aim to reverse.

Through programming work and various activities, the young people experimented directly with technology. The event also featured presentations by speakers with extensive experience in the field, such as biochemist Eduardo Castro, an MIT Technology Review award winner, and computer medicine doctor and World Bank researcher Carol Hullin, among others. The goal was to motivate the participants to pursue careers related to computer science, a field that is growing rapidly and is expected to be fundamental for the future.

The Sustainability Manager of Everis Chile, María José Ochagavía, highlighted the importance of this initiative for the professional development of young people.“We conclude these five days of activity with the feeling that this event has contributed to building scientific and technological careers, motivating young people to be interested in technology, an industry that today requires human capital in an exponential way”, she emphasized.

At the same time, he said: “Jóvenes ON! has managed to materialize our purpose as a company: to contribute to a better society with our technological innovation and talent; besides, it is the best way to celebrate our 20 years of existence, to relate to our stakeholders and to deliver value from the heart of our business”.

Meanwhile, Katherine Martorell, Entel’s Director of Sustainability and Communities, said: “It was very important for Entel to participate in this initiative, as it is in line with our commitment to help bridge the digital divide in the country. As a telecommunications company, we feel responsible for developing platforms that allow these young people to use the knowledge they acquire and make them part of this dynamic technological world”.

Jóvenes ON! was held at Corfo’s Centro Colaborativo from Monday, October 17th to Friday, October 21st, as part of the World Programming Week activities.
