The fifth edition of the urban art festival Hecho en Casa Fest Entel (in English “Home Made Fest Entel”) confirmed the first of its large-scale works for its 2017 edition.


Visual artist Valeria Merino, winner of the “#IdeasTorreEntel” contest, will intervene the iconic capital building with giant butterflies and will join outstanding Chilean and foreign artists who will participate in the festival.


Hecho en Casa Fest Entel revealed the winner of the “#IdeasTorreEntel” contest confirming the first large-scale work of the new edition of the largest urban art festival in Latin America, which will be held from September 28 to October 8.


Five giant butterflies of 12 meters each will welcome spring from the Entel Tower. The work “Mariposas Chilensis”, by visual artist Valeria Merino, seeks to make the butterflies land on this symbol of modernity and technology as if it were a tree in a concrete forest. At night the butterflies will light up with LED ribbons to give joy and freshness to the city center.


Merino became the first amendment confirmed artist of the most important urban art festival in Latin America, after beating more than 40 proposals in the “#IdeasTorreEntel” contest.

“Hecho en Casa Fest Entel is a festival that has always caught my attention, because it involves ordinary people, who are the real judges of the works”, said the artist. “Being the winner of this contest makes me very happy, since intervening a building as iconic as the Entel Tower is a great milestone”, she added.

Payo Söchting, artistic director of the festival commented that “We are very happy for the quality and creativity of the projects that applied, and the fifth edition of this free festival, which brings great works and surprises for everyone, is just around the corner”, he said.

Merino’s work, which will have a budget of $20 million, was chosen by a jury formed by urban planner Pablo Allard, gallery owner Patricia Ready and journalist Rodrigo Guendelman.
