Starting today, a giant rubber duck will invite families to visit Quinta Normal Park. This, because today began the fifth edition of the festival Hecho en Casa Entel (Home Made Entel).
This rubber duck, the work of Dutchman Florentijn Hofman, has already toured Hong Kong, Sydney, Amsterdam and Toronto, and is coming in its largest version to visit Chile. Created nine years ago, “Rubber Duck” has attracted millions of people in the different cities where it has been presented. This year, in addition to Santiago, this rubber duck will be exhibited at the Muelle Prat in Valparaíso, where it will be between Wednesday 4 and Sunday 8 to bid farewell to its visit to our country.
Meanwhile, the Australians of The Glue Society come to celebrate their 20 years of career with an unprecedented work for Hecho en Casa Entel. ““Clothesline”, is a string that crosses the Paseo Bulnes, where 11 giant garments will be dried, 5 meters wide by 8 meters high, which will extend for 50 meters on the pedestrian promenade. As an additional effect, the clothes will drip water.
And to continue enjoying the city, five butterflies will perch on the iconic Entel Tower to welcome spring. This intervention is by visual artist Valeria Merino, winner of the #IdeasTorreEntel contest.
Likewise, on the esplanade of the Museum of Contemporary Art, the English family Sand in Your Eye will use 120 tons of sand to sculpt the work “We”, which includes carving representative faces of the original peoples of America and will be completed during the festival.
And with some history in the touristic Lastarria neighborhood, the “ Patrimonial Mural” will be developed by the Antofagasta artist Luis Núñez, who will paint a hyper-realistic mural of 300 square meters, set in the year 1900 and that will bring us back to José Victorino Lastarria, Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, José Gil de Castro, among other figures of our history.
“We hope that everyone will come to see the works, interact with them, share them and enjoy a free event that brings art to the streets, interrupting the routine and public spaces,” said Felipe Zegers, creative director of the festival.
For his part, Antonio Büchi, CEO of Entel, told about the company’s objective in this festival. “Our goal is to connect and unite people. On this occasion, our invitation is that everyone can do so thanks to the art and culture that Hecho en Casa Entel will bring to the entire city of Santiago, and on this occasion also to Valparaíso.”
