• The sixth edition of the urban art festival Hecho en Casa Entel announced the first of its large-scale works for its 2018 edition.

• Advertising student Mauricio García Collío, winner of the Ideas Torre Entel contest, will intervene the iconic capital building with a huge woodpecker and will join outstanding Chilean and foreign artists who will participate in the urban art festival.

Hecho en Casa (Homemade) Entel revealed the first confirmed work of the next edition of the largest urban art festival in Latin America, which will begin in late October. It is “Pájaro Carpintero”, ("Woodpecker"), a large-scale installation that will perch on the shaft of the Entel Tower, where it will build its nest.

The author of the work is Mauricio García Collío, 22 years old and studying Advertising at the Creative Campus of Universidad Andrés Bello. His project won out over 837 proposals that participated in the Ideas Torre Entel contest, which for the first time did not focus only on artists, but was open to anyone who wanted to participate.

“The idea was born when I was in the hospital accompanying my mom to undergo dialysis, because she has kidney failure. Together we saw a report about how woodpeckers have had to migrate from southern Chile” explained the author. He added: “This giant woodpecker represents all the species that are struggling to survive in the face of deforestation in southern Chile. Looking for a new home, it arrived in Santiago and found the Entel Tower, where it decided to build its home and start over again”.

[

For his part, Payo Söchting, artistic director of the festival commented that “it is a work of great form and color, which represents many current stories, such as immigrants or anyone who has lost their home in one way or another and managed to get ahead despite the adversities that life puts in front of them”.

“I want to thank the more than 800 people who were encouraged to submit their projects to be part of the Hecho en Casa Entel Festival 2018. This year ‘Pájaro Carpintero’ (Woodpecker) will be part of this urban art festival that summons everyone”, said Jimena del Valle, Director of Sustainability and Communities at Entel.

The installation was chosen by a jury composed of the Undersecretary of Cultural Heritage, Emilio de la Cerda; architect and urban planner Pía Montealegre; gallery owner Patricia Ready; and journalist Rodrigo Guendelman, creator of Santiago Adicto.
