For the third consecutive year Entel is part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), an international measurement that recognizes the world’s leading companies in terms of sustainable performance. The company was ranked 23rd in the overall ranking of the telecommunications industry and was included in the DJSI Chile and DJSI MILA Pacific Alliance indices.
“The development of sustainability in Entel has been a constant work and today, with pride, we can say that we have managed to positively impact a large part of our different stakeholders, both in economic, social and environmental terms. Today sustainability is one of the fundamental pillars of the company in all its lines of development”, said Jimena del Valle, Entel’s Director of Sustainability and Communities.
Since 2016 Entel is the only Chilean telecommunications company that is part of the indicator, one of the most respected indexes worldwide to measure the sustainable development of companies.
Entel has focused on developing good practices that are in line with sustainable development in its three pillars, economic, social and environmental, which have been reflected, for example, in the work for two years of a diversity and inclusion government within the company.
At the same time, the company has implemented a series of initiatives to take charge of environmental management in relation to its business lines, highlighting, for example, the early adoption of electronic waste recycling, thus anticipating the national legislation regarding this matter (REP Act by its Spanish acronym). On the other hand, and with a focus on the constant contribution that the company wants to achieve for society, in 2017 Entel managed to reduce its carbon footprint by 20%, in relation to its overall operation.
Thanks to initiatives such as those described above, Entel is part for the third consecutive year of the DJSI Chile sustainable actions portfolio and for the second consecutive year of the DJSI Latin American Integrated Markets (MILA).
