Entel’s Retruck will be during the recycling day in Plaza Baquedano, so that people can deposit their technological waste, such as cell phones, batteries, cables, chargers, headphones, landline phones and modems.

Chile leads the production of electronic waste in Latin America, reaching 8.7 kilos per year per person, according to a study by ITU (International Telecommunications Union). In order to raise awareness about the importance of recovering decommissioned technological devices and accessories and as part of the activities of the World Recycling Day, this morning the Intendant of Santiago, Karla Rubilar, and the Mayor of Providencia, Evelyn Matthei, were in Plaza Baquedano inviting people to recycle at the Entel Retruck.

Entel’s recycling Retruck is the first mobile electronic recycling point: a truck dedicated to collecting cell phones, batteries, cables, chargers, headphones, fixed telephones and modems. During April and May, it was installed on the Andrés Bello bike lane, collecting 194 kilos of electronic waste on four dates. In addition, it will be touring different parts of the country to raise awareness among citizens of how important it is to give a second life to this waste.

“At Entel we are a driving force in the transformation of society. Every day we work to promote initiatives that promote sustainability and thus improve the quality of life of people, making a responsible management of waste generated throughout the value chain. We have a responsibility to connect people with a cleaner and better world" said Jimena del Valle, entel’s Director of Sustainability.

For her part, the mayor of Providencia said: “We are happy and proud that Entel has installed this recycling truck in our commune, demonstrating once again that Providencia is committed to the environment and recycling. Hopefully in the future this truck can be in other sectors of the commune, as there is a lot of interest from our neighbors in taking care of the planet”.

The Retruck joins the multiple initiatives that Entel has been carrying out since 2014, such as Electronic Recycling in Stores, which consists of recycling boxes in the company’s stores, and the Electronic Recycling for Chile program together with Fundación Recyclápolis, with more than 644 containers in public institutions and educational establishments. These actions during 2018 allowed the recycling of more than 12 tons of electronic waste, preventing it from reaching landfills.
