To intervene a classic capital building is closer than ever. For the first time, the contest “Ideas Torre Entel” will allow any person or group to participate with a project and be part of the “Hecho en Casa Entel 2018” Festival (in English “Homemade Entel 2018”), which will take place between October and November.
Unlike last year, where the contest was open only to artists, this year all individuals or groups (over 18 years old), residing in Chile with a project, sculpture, covering or technique described in the contest rules, will be able to participate. The winner(s) will join the long list of more than 50 artists from different countries who have participated in past editions of the Festival.
The winner of the competition will have a budget of up to $20 million to execute his or her work, along with a $4 million prize. In addition, they will have the opportunity to present their work at Hecho en Casa Entel, an urban art festival that attracted more than 5 million people in its last edition.
“Hecho en Casa Entel” has stood out for presenting diverse works of urban art, ranging from large murals to large-scale interventions, such as the giant rubber duck by Dutchman Florentijn Hofman, which in the 2017 version of the festival positioned the country in media worldwide.
“Last year we were surprised and amazed with the Chilensis butterflies perched on the tower, a work by Valeria Merino who won the previous contest. This year we wanted to make an open call, since there were so many comments and interest from people that we wanted to take the risk of allowing everyone to decorate their home, which is the city,” said Payo Söchting, artistic director of the festival.
Meanwhile, Antonio Büchi, CEO of Entel, commented: “We invite everyone to be part of Hecho en Casa Entel festival, to be inspired and allow themselves to transform their city, to imagine, to create and break the routine”.
The winning project will be chosen by a jury composed of gallery owner Patricia Ready, architect and urban planner Pía Montealegre, journalist Rodrigo Guendelman and the Undersecretary of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, Emilio de la Cerda, who will present their decision in the first two weeks of August.
Those who wish to apply for the contest may do so between May 29 and June 29.
