It will be inclusive and certified carbon neutral:

On October 28, the festival will open to the public at the Parque de la Familia de Parquemet, under the sanitary measures required by the authorities to protect people’s health. It will be the first in-person exhibition of urban art of this magnitude since the beginning of the pandemic.

It will feature eye-catching interventions, such as a five-meter Troll de Madera (Wooden Troll), as well as great successes from previous versions, such as the giant Pato de Hule (Rubber Duck), Los Caracoles (Snails) and Huevos Fritos (Fried Eggs).

In addition to Santiago, the works will be presented in the cities of Iquique, Concepción and Valdivia.

Everything is ready for citizens to enjoy again the Festival Hecho en Casa Entel and celebrate the reunion between art, public space and people. After three years without being held, this eighth edition will take over the Parque de la Familia, part of the Parquemet Urban Parks Network, in the commune of Quinta Normal, with a series of five large-scale urban art exhibitions.

Between October 28 and November 4, the public will be able to interact with large works that, on this occasion, will all be located in this large enclosure of more than 20 hectares. Thus, one of the main green lungs of Santiago will become the temporary home of entertaining and innovative interventions, which will then begin an unprecedented tour of regions, which will pass through the cities of Iquique, Valdivia and Concepción.

It will be the first artistic exhibition of this magnitude, in person and free of charge, since the beginning of the pandemic. Therefore, despite the fact that it will take place outdoors, in a completely open space, all the health and safety measures required by the authorities to protect people’s health have been put in place.

This year, the proposal mixes spectacular works never seen before with classics from previous years. Thus, the public will be able to see Ulla, a five-meter high Troll de Madera (Wooden Troll), and the Entel Home Made Robot, inspired by the electronic recycling material found in Entel’s warehouses, which, with its seven meters high, invites the public to find new and better ways to recycle electronic waste.

These imposing works will share the stage with great successes of past versions, such as the popular 20-meter Pato de Hule, the Huevos Fritos that took over Plaza Italia in 2016 and the colorful Caracoles (Snails) that we met in 2018.

Also, during this new version of the festival, the winning work of the 2019 #IdeasTorreEntel contest, “BloquEntel”, by the Rancagua artist Julio Jeanmaire, will transform the Entel Tower into the traditional game of physical and mental skill, with striking colors, surprising all the people who pass through the sector or have the chance to see it from a distance.

[

“We are very happy for this new version of the Festival Hecho en Casa Entel, with which, through urban interventions by renowned artists, we hope to transform spaces with creativity, in this case the Parque de la Familia and new locations in various cities of the country, with the intention of promoting the interaction of art and culture. In addition, we have been especially concerned that this is done in a responsible manner, with all the pertinent sanitary measures, so that people can enjoy this traditional show safely in this pandemic scenario", said Entel’s Communications Manager, Fernando Rivas.

[

The last face-to-face version of the renowned Festival Hecho en Casa Entel was held in 2018 and, as a result of the pandemic, a few months ago it was held virtually for the first time. In that line, the creative director of Bla!, Felipe Zegers, stressed that “we are happy to be back. This is an invitation to return to enjoy the city, with a first class artistic exhibition and totally free. We want it to be a gift for people, who will be able to meet again with great artistic novelties and also with the classics”.

[

“For the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism it is a pride to receive the ‘Hecho en Casa’ festival at Parque de La Familia, part of our Parquemet network, because it will allow its visitors to enjoy for free a cultural event of international standard in a quality public space connected to the city. Thanks to people’s responsibility and care with sanitary measures, we can once again safely enjoy our urban parks and continue to make progress in social integration thanks to this type of event that will allow us to contemplate these large-scale works of art in an emblematic green area of our capital”, commented the Minister of Housing and Urbanism, Felipe Ward.

Sanitary measures for the festival

The Festival Hecho en Casa Entel is organized by the technology and telecommunications company together with Bla!, who assured that the 2021 version will have all the sanitary measures required by the authorities to develop an artistic exhibition of this magnitude, in the current context of pandemic.

For this reason, during the Festival, the Parque de la Familia will have controlled access, a temperature reading at the entrance and signage indicating the distance that those attending the show must keep. Likewise, a suggested route has been designed to see all the plays, in order to avoid mass crossings of people, and there will be signage to remind attendees of the measures and recommendations for self-care.

The use of masks will be mandatory for all visitors and the festival will have monitors to control the correct use of them. In addition, there will be sanitation areas and alcohol gels will be available.

A sustainable and inclusive Festival

The Festival Hecho en Casa Entel has implemented sustainability actions progressively. This year, to continue with this commitment, the production of the artistic show will be carbon neutral and will have a zero waste protocol. In addition, as in the previous version, works will be built from reused materials.

According to the event organizers, the carbon footprint measurement will be audited by the sustainability agency Respect and its results will be published at the end of the festival. It will then be neutralized with the purchase of carbon credits from an accredited national project.

In addition, they explained that they are being advised by the Stgo Slow sustainability trends laboratory to implement more sustainable practices and promote the circular economy through a Zero Waste Protocol and full traceability of the event’s production.

Along with the above, among the actions that will be implemented is the establishment of recycling points within the park and that it was decided not to produce any type of stationery or brochures, avoiding unnecessary waste of paper and associated waste.

[

“We invite those who visit the festival this year to also help us to have a more sustainable event, contributing to take care of the environment and the works, using public transportation or other means of transportation that does not generate pollution, and taking care of their waste using the clean points that will be in the park”, explained Fernando Rivas.

[

The Festival Hecho en Casa Entel will also be an inclusive event, so that all families can enjoy the exhibition. To this end, an accessible route has been designed (which will be available on the festival’s website www.hechoencasa.cl) so that people with disabilities can walk through the festival without any inconvenience; there will be audio guides explaining each work for visually impaired attendees; and the event’s organizing device and monitors will be trained in inclusion. “We want there to be no impediments in this great festival to which the whole community is invited”, said Payo Sochting, artistic director of Bla!

Details of the works

  1. Robot de Juguete (Toy Robot), by Hecho en Casa Entel, is this year’s iconic work. It is a structure of the 1950s and retro-futuristic design, seven meters high, built with technological scrap recovered from Entel’s waste warehouses, such as antennas, metal structures, pipes, among other elements. This was made by Blá!, organizer of the Festival together with Entel.
  2. Troll de Madera (Wooden Troll), by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, is a five-meter high work, built with three tons of reused wood.
  3. Pato de Goma (Rubber Duck), by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, which was presented at Quinta Normal and Muelle Prat in 2017, is a giant inflatable work measuring 20 meters.
  4. Huevos Fritos caídos del Cielo (Fried Eggs fall from the Sky), by Dutchman Henk Hofstra, is a work that was installed in 2016 in the central Plaza Italia. This year will be only two eggs, the most iconic, which will surprise the citizenship.
  5. Caracoles de Colores (Colored Snails), by the Italians Cracking Art, were made with regenerated plastic. In 2018 they amazed santiaguinos, in Plaza Italia, and porteños, in Muelle Vergara in Valparaíso.
  6. BloquEntel, the project of the Rancagua artist Julio Jeanmaire, seeks to turn the Entel Tower into a giant column of colorful blocks, a toy of infinite possibilities that has made the imagination of boys and girls of different generations fly with its particular constructions.
