The opportunity to intervene a classic capital building begins today. For the third consecutive year, the “Ideas Torre Entel” contest invites any person or group to apply with an original urban art project to be part of the “Hecho en Casa Entel 2019” Festival, which will take place between October and November 2019.

The novelty of this year is that people will be able to participate in the election of the winner. How? The organization of the contest will present the ten finalists of the contest in RRSS and people will be able to choose the five best projects through electronic voting. Subsequently, the jury composed of the Undersecretary of Cultural Heritage, Emilio de la Cerda; gallery owner Patricia Ready; architect and urban planner Pía Montealegre; photographer María Gracia Subercaseaux; and journalist Rodrigo Guendelman will choose the winner of the contest.
As in 2018, all individuals or groups (over 18 years of age), residing in Chile with an art installation project, sculpture, draping or other techniques described in the contest rules, may participate. The winner(s) will join the long list of more than 50 artists from various countries who have participated in past editions of the festival.
The Entel Tower, since its construction in 1970, has become an important architectural and technological landmark and an urban symbol of our capital. For this reason, #IdeasTorreEntel is presented as an opportunity to integrate the city with people, a new cultural instance and a contribution to the identity of Santiago.
The first place winner, in addition to the production of his work will receive a $4 million prize and will be part of Hecho en Casa Entel 2019.
“Hecho en Casa Entel” has stood out for presenting diverse works of urban art, ranging from large murals to large-scale interventions, such as the giant rubber duck by Dutchman Florentijn Hofman or the colorful snails of the Italian collective Cracking Art, which were part of the 2018 version.
“Last year we were surprised and amazed by the work of Mauricio García, winner of the previous contest: a giant Woodpecker that landed on the Entel Tower to remind us of the importance of taking care of our flora and fauna. This year we will repeat the open call, so that everyone can participate to decorate our home, which is the city” said Payo Söchting, artistic director of the festival.
“We want this to be a festival for everyone, which is why we developed it outdoors in the city”, said Manuel Araya, manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs at Entel. “This year we are opening it up even more so that for the first time people can be part of the process of choosing the winner”, he added.
Those who wish to apply can do so from May 14 to June 15 of this year. The rules and requirements are at www.hechoencasa.cl.
