With an additional investment of US$ 100 million:

Public tender for the 700 MHz band considered the installation of 660 4G stations throughout the country and Entel will add another 737 stations.


It strengthens its position as the telecommunications company with the most robust and modern 4G network in the country.


In order to meet the company’s explosive demand for data, Entel will double the deployment of 4G network infrastructure in 700 MHz band nationwide by the end of this year.


The public tender for the 700 MHz band committed to the authority considered the installation of 660 4G stations throughout the country and with this additional investment Entel will add another 737 stations, which implies more than doubling the investment initially guaranteed.


According to Entel’s Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs, Manuel Araya, the total investment to be made in the 700 MHz band nationwide will be close to US$ 200 million. Of this amount, US$ 100 million are additional resources that will be used to reinforce the existing 4G coverage and capacity. Entel will have a 4G network in the 700 MHz band with 1,397 base stations nationwide, consolidating its position as the telecommunications company with the most robust and modern network in the country.


The deployment of the 700 MHz band allows Entel to offer its customers a better browsing experience in its 4G and 4G+ network, which has LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology and is considered the most modern network in Latin America. In addition, it is contributing to improve the experience in mobile data services in terms of applications and connectivity, contributing to the development of the country.

“The way of communicating has changed and the growing demand for data made the development of this infrastructure urgent. When we began the rollout of our 700 MHz band network in May 2016, we had very high expectations regarding the impact this project would have for our customers and the country. However, these expectations were far exceeded. The demand for data “exploded”more than doubling in a single year, which justifies every peso we invested and the decision to continue investing”, explained Manuel Araya.

In fact, the executive commented that, in the Metropolitan Region, which was where they began the deployment of their 4G project in 700 MHz band in May 2016, 4G data traffic already amounts to 63% of the total, becoming the dominant technology. Meanwhile, in other regions - where the deployment took place in the following months - 4G traffic corresponds to 34% of the total, but is growing very strongly. In the last five months alone, it has grown by 70%.

“This is an extremely competitive industry, and operators must be able to offer differentiating value propositions. In the case ofEntel, the good results can be explained by the fact that we constantly invest to have a modern and cutting-edge network, and we always seek to provide our clients with the best service, as well as a range of state-of-the-art plans and teams,” , said Araya.

In this regard, he pointed out that in one year Entel almost doubled its 4G customer base, reaching 2.5 million people, which already represents more than half (56%) of the customer base with data traffic.


Entel is the industry leader in the 4G segment. According to the latest Sector Statistics report of the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, as of December last year it had 37.3% of the postpaid market, which are the customers that use data more intensively, and 32.1% of 4G customers.
