In 2030, Chile will be the country in the region with the highest population over 70 years of age and the estimated life expectancy will exceed 85 years by 2050. This is confirmed by data provided by the National Statistics Institute (INE), which adds that the percentage of people under 15 years of age will continue to decrease over time. With these figures in view and in line with the sustained work that Entel has been doing to promote digitalization of this age group, the technology and telecommunications company has just introduced a cell phone plan exclusively for seniors, for a monthly cost of CLP 3,990.
12GB to surf the Internet, free use of applications to listen to music or the most popular social networks without deducting megabytes from the navigation quota and 300 minutes to call anywhere in Chile, are some of the benefits offered in this new offer for seniors. The requirements to access this plan are: to be 70 years old or older and to have the state benefit of Pensión Garantizada Universal (PGU). In addition, the person contracting the plan must be the account holder and may contract only one line per person. On the other hand, this plan is available for those who transfer from other companies, as well as for those who are already Entel customers, as long as they comply with the aforementioned requirements.
This commercial innovation is part of a global project that the technology and telecommunications company has been promoting for more than two years to digitally integrate the elderly. During 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, Entel donated 80 thousand plans so that this age segment could continue communicating with their loved ones. In addition, tutorials were developed to take advantage of their mobile devices and make it easier for them to use smartphones and the Internet. Exclusive customer service channels were created to provide preferential assistance in stores and Call centers, where they can be attended directly by a sales executive. And recently, the company developed a prototype interface to simplify cell phone use and help seniors connect more naturally and quickly to their favorite applications.
“At Entel we are committed to the responsible transformation of society and we were observing that people over 70 were being left out of digitalization, so we are very happy to promote their integration and help them stay connected with their loved ones and feel active in this new world. So, just as we promoted different solutions during the most critical period of the pandemic, today we present this value proposition designed for this segment that is so important for the country”, said Yanina Manassa, Entel’s Customer Experience Manager.
Entel’s new offer is also related to a recent analysis of the use that the elderly make of their smartphones, carried out thanks to an alliance between Entel and Fundación Conecta Mayor of Universidad Católica, which, among other things, concluded that 91% feel safer with a cell phone by their side, while 86% feel more accompanied with a device.
Meanwhile, 25% stated that they use their cell phones to communicate with their families and 72% stated that they mainly call public institutions, friends, neighbors and other networks. In relation to applications, the most used is Facebook, with 15%, followed by YouTube with 12%, Netflix with 9% and TikTok with 9%; while data traffic is close to the average consumption of Entel’s customers.
