Almost a year after the deployment of Entel’s 4G network in 700 MHz band throughout the country, 4G data traffic nationwide reached 61% of total mobile data (the remaining 39% moves in 3G and 2G technology), demonstrating the fast penetration of the use of this technology by users, which has also allowed to cope with the explosive demand for data by consumers.
Thus, there are already more than 3 million customers nationwide who have adopted this technology, whose development was possible thanks to the public tender for the 700 MHz band, committed to the authority. This included the installation of 660 4G stations throughout the country, to where Entel added another 737 stations, thanks to an additional investment made to reinforce the coverage and capacity of its network. Thus, the company made an investment of US$ 200 million, consolidating its position as the telecommunications company with the most robust and modern network in the country.
In the Metropolitan Region alone (which was the first to be deployed), data traffic on Entel’s 4G network reaches almost 80% of the total, with more than 1.5 million customers adopting this technology.
“The behavior of our customers in the Metropolitan Region is a sign of the need for infrastructure to support the digital tsunami we are experiencing. The high 4G data traffic that we see here stems from the fact that it was one of the first regions in which we launched this network, in addition to customers’ recognition of the quality of service and browsing experience to which they now have access,”, said Manuel Araya, Entel’s Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs.
In addition, the executive reported that the average data traffic on Entel’s 4G network in regions is 50%, a figure that will increase as the network consolidates in those areas where it has been operating for less time.
Thanks to the deployment of the 700 MHz band, Entel can offer a better browsing experience in 4G and also in 4G+, which has LTE Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology, considered the most modern network in Latin America, which has contributed to improve the experience in mobile data services in terms of applications and connectivity, contributing to the development of the country.
Entel is the industry leader in the 4G segment. According to the latest Sector Statistics report of the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, as of September last year it had 36% of the postpaid mobile telephony market, which are the customers who use data most constantly. It also leads in 4G, with 31.1% of the total number of customers.
