The launch of Entel’s 4G+ network in the Biobío Region is just one month away. This is possible thanks to the deployment of its 4G network in the 700 MHz band, which will also feature LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology and is the most modern network in Latin America.
This will allow an increase in browsing speed and almost double that of 4G alone, as it combines the 2,600 and 700 MHz bands.
It is the only telecommunications company in the country to provide access to this technology, which is already deployed in five regions of the country: Metropolitana, Valparaíso, Tarapacá, Antofagasta and O’Higgins.
This technology offers an omnipresent navigation experience -both in open and closed spaces-, which represents a major technological leap forward in terms of user satisfaction.
According to Entel’s Regulation and Corporate Affairs Manager, Manuel Araya, the project in the Biobío Region is one of the company’s most important nationwide, with an investment of US$15 million and the installation of 99 4G stations. This will improve the mobile data service experience in terms of applications and connectivity, contributing to the region’s development.
“We understand that it is of utmost importance to reach the whole country with this technology as soon as possible and we are very happy to launch it soon in the Biobío Region. We are moving fast for our customers to live the best 4G experience,” , explained Araya.
‘As we have said since we began the deployment of 4G in the 700 MHz band, and we have been able to verify in the regions where it is already operational, this service will have a very significant impact for our customers and for the country, considering the explosive growth of the 4G service, which to date was only delivered over the 2,600 MHz band network”, said the executive.
According to Araya, since its deployment, the 4G+ network has managed to capture between 20 and 25% of data traffic, a figure that is expected to continue to grow along with the increase of more modern equipment in the hands of customers.
Entel is the segment leader. It already has 1.6 million users with 4G service, and according to the latest Sector Statistics report from the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, as of June this year it has 39% of the postpaid market and 37% of 4G customers.
Araya also detailed that, of the total number of handsets in Entel’s customer base, more than 70% are already smartphones, and according to the latest public data released by the company, it has more than 800,000 users with smartphones supporting 4G in the 700 MHz band who could benefit from a significantly superior experience.
On LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation compatible devices, the executive explained that initially around 200,000 Entel users will have access to this technology. He pointed out that this figure is more than seven times the number of 4G subscribers with which they launched their network on the 2,600 MHz band in March 2014, when they were already leaders in this technology. For this reason, the company projects a significant penetration of 4G+ in its customer base.
