Entel takes seriously the challenge of caring for the environment and promoting the circular economy. In this context and as part of the International Recycling Day, it reported that in 2022 it responsibly managed 427.07 tons of waste thanks to various partnerships and initiatives to recycle electronic devices and also take charge of the waste generated as a company throughout its production chain.
“It is estimated that in each household there are 40 technological devices and on average this generates 9.6 kilos of scrap per person per year, but according to the Ministry of the Environment only 3.4% is collected and properly treated. At Entel we are aware of this complex reality and, as a relevant player in the digital ecosystem, we have been working since 2013 in a series of alliances and impact actions that have allowed us to contribute in a concrete way to manage this waste responsibly”assured Entel’s Director of Sustainability and Environment, Jimena del Valle.
She also highlighted the work that is permanently being carried out to create awareness in society about the importance of properly recycling unused electronic devices.
This is in addition to a monitoring and evaluation system to responsibly manage the waste generated in its own operation, including the responsible management of waste from the deployment and operation of its network, and recycling through agreements with Ericsson and Midas.
Among the initiatives that the technology and telecommunications company has designed to recycle unused electronic devices are the following:
Recycling mailboxes: to deposit telephone devices, accessories and batteries, among other items, which are located in Entel stores and other places throughout the country. For more details and the location of these points, visit the website: https://www.entel.cl/reciclaje-electronico/
Reciclapp: is a digital application that allows people to recycle their waste without leaving their homes. They make home deliveries in 39 communes of the country and have a category of electronic waste that allows users to recycle cell phones and accessories.
Reutiliza (in English Re-use): is an initiative led by Entel and Kyklos, which began in 2020 with the aim of collecting cell phones, tablets, computers and CPUs throughout Chile, to recondition them and give them to students in vulnerable contexts, or recycle them if it is not possible to repair them and thus prevent them from ending up in landfills. In fact, in the 2022 version of the campaign, more than 11,500 unused electronic devices were collected throughout the country, which allowed more than a thousand refurbished computers to be donated to low-income schools. It is currently touring the country and the dates, times and places that the “tour” will visit can be seen at https://www.entel.cl/reutiliza/
e) Service: is Entel’s specialist channel that provides software solutions, configurations, screen repairs and offers pre-owned accessories to extend the useful life of cell phones. In turn, Entel stores can arrange for devices to be sent to technical service centers certified by the manufacturers. You can schedule a visit to one of the stores that offer this service at https://www.entel.cl/tiendas/
Devices reuse: The Entel website offers a wide range of pre-owned devices at competitive prices. The catalog is available on the website: https://miportal.entel.cl/personas/catalogo/seminuevos
