Towards a responsible social transformation:

The technology and telecommunications company is part of three different initiatives with the Kodea, Tremendas and Belén Educa foundations, to enhance learning in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, in children, young people and women.

Learning in STEAM, which stands for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, is a highly relevant challenge for the coming years, as these areas are not only in high demand in the labor market, but also fundamental for the development of future technologies.

For this reason, and with the aim of promoting and contributing to the education of children and young people in these important disciplines, the technology and telecommunications company Entel has joined three different initiatives that seek to promote STEAM learning. These are Los Creadores together with Fundación Kodea; Academia Atómicas, created byFundación Tremendas, and the aplicación Lab4U, whose pilot is being developed together with Fundación Belén Educa.

“Supporting and promoting initiatives that seek to strengthen learning around science and technology allows us to bring technology closer to children and young people, from the development of those skills that will be critical in future technological developments. The good news is that we also see a lot of interest in deepening their knowledge in these disciplines, since they understand that they are an important part of the future, and our commitment is to open more spaces and seek instances of public-private collaboration with which we can contribute to this development", explains Entel’s director of sustainability, Jimena del Valle.

This year, Entel joined the fifth version of Los Creadores,, the School Digital Talent Award, which for the first time includes a Training Program, with workshops to support students and teachers in their processes of turning their ideas into innovative technology-based solutions, with the aim of developing higher-level digital skills and fostering early innovation. The winners from each region will attend a bootcamp in the Metropolitan Region, where Entel experts will participate as judges of the solutions.

[

“We are very happy to be part of this alliance that Entel is articulating with organizations that share our purpose of promoting innovation through technology”, says Karla Cantuarias, the Kodea Foundation’s Awareness Manager. She adds that “during these 5 years of Los Creadores, we have found that early innovation is happening in the classroom and it is essential to support, make it visible and scale it to the entire education system, because it is critical that the school and society understand that creativity goes beyond the merely artistic, taking advantage of the ability of technology to motivate children to challenge themselves and think about how to solve problems in their environment, acquiring key digital skills in this process”.

Along the same lines, the Tremendas Foundation, a collaborative platform that seeks to showcase the talent and initiatives of girls and young women, launched the Atómicas academy, a free virtual event that invites young women between the ages of 12 and 25 from Latin America and the Caribbean to discover their interests and connect with STEAM through workshops and classes taught by experts from the world of technology, where Entel executives will be part of the faculty. Subsequently, the technology and telecommunications company will participate in the project development stage, through mentors who will accompany the process.

[

The academy will be divided into three educational areas: Astronomical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Technology and Robotics. “At Tremendas, we know that girls and adolescents are the present and the future, so we always work to empower them. This is how Atómicas was born, to connect them with STEAM and make them see that another world is possible. Likewise, we always work on the basis of collaboration, intersectionality and under the idea of the multi-agent, so we highly value those who join these transformations and place their trust in these amazing women", explains Rocío Sancha, executive director of Tremendas.

[

Carmen Gloria Cárcamo, Entel’s assistant manager of Trends and Projects, adds that “promoting STEAM education has become a fundamental pillar for us as a company. It is very important that more and more young people explore and become interested in these areas, especially women, who are often left out of this world and who undoubtedly have a lot to contribute”.

Finally, Entel, together with Lab4U, a company that develops tools and applications to facilitate and contribute to science education, is implementing a pilot project in two schools of the Belén Educa Foundation, an entity with which Entel has had a relationship for several years. Thanks to this initiative, teachers and students will be able to experiment and have access to science tools and activities oriented to their specialty.

[

“From Lab4U we are very proud to be able to enhance STEAM education together with Entel, and in this way contribute to the training of young people, students, children, teachers and educational community of the Belén Educa Foundation. We hope to inspire through innovative tools the future agents of change for science and technology in our country. That is why we are very happy to be able to reach different schools and thus democratize and truly revolutionize access to science and the way in which it is taught", says the CEO and co-founder of Lab4U, Komal Dadlani.
