The initiative is part of a participatory innovation program in which Entel employees seek to provide communication solutions for local development.

Nearly 300 families, who live in isolation, will be able to improve their access to health care.

With the idea of continuing to deepen digital inclusion and strengthen the link with the rural areas of the country, Entel’s internal participatory innovation program, called “Desafío Territorio de Ideas”, ("Territory of Ideas Challenge" in English), together with the Rural Health Care Service of Isla Maillen, announced the implementation of a connectivity project that will improve remote health care in the locality, located 30 minutes by boat from Puerto Montt. The announcement was made this Tuesday at the Isla Maillen Health Care Service and was attended by the Mayor of Puerto Montt, Gervoy Paredes.

This project, which seeks to provide a solution to connectivity and contribute to the local health area, will benefit more than 1,000 inhabitants, who in times of rain and adverse weather conditions are isolated, without the possibility of being attended by health personnel in person.

Specifically, an internet service and a complete technological equipment will be installed, including a computer, so that staff can communicate and upload patient information; a Smart TV, to provide information to users while they are waiting to be attended; and other technical tools to support educational sessions. In addition, health professionals on the island and elderly people in the area will be trained in the use of the new technological tools.

This initiative was selected as part of the internal innovation program for Entel employees “Territorio de Ideas”, which seeks to link the company with those challenges that arise throughout the territory and that have a direct impact on its customers. It is a call to come up with new ideas within the company that have a positive social impact and allow delivering a transforming experience.

“For us it is remarkable that this type of project is being carried out, in that through this contribution the Maillen Estero Rural Health Station will be connected by internet and telephony. This marks a before and after in the work carried out by the staff of the post and Rural Health, as it will mean a substantive advance for connectivity and to be able to deliver instances for the neighbors, such as telemedicine or medical consultations in the offices, for the neighbors of Maillen. We are grateful for this great contribution to the community from Entel and its team”, said the Mayor of Puerto Montt, Gervoy Paredes.

“This project represents Entel’s faithful commitment to continue providing solutions in remote areas, where we continue working to bring technology closer, provide connectivity and make people’s lives easier. This initiative met the necessary criteria related to social impact, speed of implementation to execute it in the short term, the generation of benefits for rural communities, and technical feasibility, among other aspects", said Patricia Muñoz, Entel’s Director of Territory and Communities.

The project that will benefit the inhabitants of Isla Maillen was submitted internally by Entel collaborators for its impact on rural connectivity, although there are other types of ideas that also have a place in this innovation program. These initiatives may be related to the transfer and management of information, and inclusive care with a focus on the elderly, people with disabilities, and / or with difficulty of digital adoption in rural areas.
