The service -a pioneer in Latin America- will be available progressively by the end of 2024.

Soon, millions of smartphones with Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard in Chile will be able to access the latest technology in terms of satellite coverage. This will be possible thanks to the commercial alliance signed between Entel and SpaceX, a company that is ready to launch the first Starlink satellites with Direct to Cell capacity, which will initially provide basic satellite connectivity by the end of 2024.

This is a pioneering service in Latin America that is expected to be available to connect Entel customers in Chile progressively via satellite, thanks to low orbit satellites provided by Starlink. Satellite cellular connectivity can be a basic connectivity solution in remote or unserved locations.

“This agreement allows us to reinforce why Entel is in all, leading the development of connectivity in the country, working to bring the infinite possibilities offered by technology. We are investing in innovation and experience; this time, hand in hand with one of the main global players in technological development”, said Matías del Campo, Vice President of Entel’s People Market.

“We share Entel’s vision of improving connectivity throughout Chile. Starlink’s constellation of satellites with Direct to Cell capability will be integrated with Entel’s mobile network to transmit directly to LTE cell phones throughout the country. We are excited about this collaboration and offer a solution that will expand coverage and help keep customers connected no matter where they live or travel”, said Dr. Sara Spangelo, Senior Director of Satellite Engineering at SpaceX.

This alliance shows once again Entel’s ongoing commitment to provide the best connectivity, reflected in having been the first operator to complete 100% of the mandatory 5G project deployed from Putre to Puerto Williams, including locations such as Easter Island/Rapa Nui, and having recently collaborated in the first 5G Pan American Games in history.
