• As part of the International Day of Recycling, to be celebrated on May 17, 100 containers will be donated for the collection of electronic waste.

In order to promote electronic recycling among the population and celebrate the approval of the new Recycling Law, the Recyclápolis Foundation, together with the Minister of the Environment, Pablo Badenier, and executives from Entel and Masisa, launched this morning the “100 Containers for Chile” campaign, which includes the delivery of one hundred mailboxes for the collection of electronic waste in 23 municipalities of the Metropolitan Region and iconic places in the city.

The 100 containers, each with a capacity of 360 liters, will be installed starting May 16 in Buin, Calera de Tango, Conchalí, El Bosque, Estación Central, La Reina, Lo Barnechea, La Pintana, Lo Prado, Maipú, María Pinto, Pedro Aguirre Cerda, Peñalolén, Pirque, Providencia, Pudahuel, Quilicura, Recoleta, San Bernardo, San José de Maipo, Santiago, Til Til and Vitacura.

Most of the bins will be placed in educational institutions, but others will be placed in private and public institutions, such as the Ministry of Environment, the Metropolitan Government and some museums, among others.

The Minister of the Environment, Pablo Badenier, stated that “today citizens and especially young people have the need to value and recycle different types of waste, and through these 100 containers what we are doing is improving the possibilities and the offer for people to recycle when a product ends its useful life”.

[

“Our intention is to be part of a new recycling infrastructure and to raise awareness in different parts of the community about the responsibility to dispose and recycle electrical and electronic waste. We believe that this is the best way to celebrate the new recycling law that will soon be in force,” said Fernando Nilo, social entrepreneur and founder of Fundación Recyclápolis.

The bins will be able to collect waste in the following categories: mobile phones and accessories (cables, chargers, headphones, etc.); ink cartridges and toner, batteries and compact discs.

[

“We are very pleased to contribute to this initiative because we understand the importance of caring for the environment. he Extended Producer Responsibility Act has just been passed by Congress, but at Entel we want to go beyond its requirements. We understand that our mission is about more than technology connectivity, it is about connecting people and helping to create a cleaner and better world. We want to contribute so that future generations can live in a pollution-free environment that makes them happier,” said Manuel Araya, Entel’s Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs.

[

“The contribution of these containers, which are made of environmentally friendly Masisa cardboard and are available for recycling, reflects our commitment to sustainability and the careful and efficient use of our resources,” said Regina Massai, Masisa’s CSR Assistant Manager.

The campaign is sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and the Metropolitan Intendencia. Recycla Chile will be responsible for the removal of the electronic waste and its proper disposal or recycling, as appropriate.
