Along with the entry into force today of the new labeling regulations for mobile telephony, Entel made available to the population an educational site (www.entel.cl/nueva-normativa/), whose aim is that all users can more easily understand the implications of this new technical standard and the concepts to which it refers, so that they are fully informed before purchasing a device or plan.
In this microsite, users will be able to access complete information about this new regulation that is in force as of today. It details the compatibility of the devices and the characteristics of the seals that will be incorporated in them. In addition, as additional material, different technical concepts of cellular telephony are explained, such as frequency bands and technologies available in Chile (2G, 3G and 4G), clearly informing which operator offers each one.
In addition, this site also contains a search engine for devices by brand and model, where, in addition to providing the device’s characteristics, it details the seal that it has incorporated and in which frequency bands and companies it works. This application seeks to facilitate users’ access to information so that they can make a fully informed decision when buying a device or contracting a plan, without the need to go to a branch office.
For Entel’s regulatory manager, Pedro Suárez,”any regulation that helps users to make more informed purchasing decisions is positive. Having more information undoubtedly allows them to make a better comparison of what is available in the market before making a decision”.
However, he said that Entel’s new informative website “is a very good complement to the regulation, as we are going a step further, so that people are even more informed, not only about the device they are going to acquire, but also about the frequencies and technologies available in Chile. The regulation itself now requires labeling and reporting technologies, but thanks to this site, users will also be able to understand whether their device can be used to operate with any operator or only with some, which is not necessarily understood only with the labels”.
