It is the first telecommunications company in the country to offer its customers a 4G network with LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology.

Entel has inaugurated the 4G+ network at the regional level with the launch of its 4G network in the 700 MHz band in the Valparaíso region, which features LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology. This makes it possible to increase the speed and practically double the speed obtained only with 4G LTE by combining the 2,600 MHz and 700 MHz bands.

It is the only telecommunications company in the country to offer access to this technology. It has been available in the metropolitan area since mid-May and is now available to residents of the region.

This technology offers a ubiquitous navigation experience - both in open and closed spaces - which represents a major technological leap forward in terms of user satisfaction.

The launch was attended by the Secretary of Telecommunications, Pedro Huichalaf, and the Secretary of Transport and Telecommunications, Mauricio Candia, at the Sheraton Miramar Hotel in Viña del Mar.

According to Entel’s regulatory and corporate affairs manager, Manuel Araya, the total project in the Valparaíso region includes the installation of 104 4G stations using LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology. Today, 77 stations are operational. This will improve the experience of mobile data services in terms of applications and connectivity, contributing to the development of the area.

“Our commitment is to bring connectivity to all people to improve their quality of life. We understand that it is of utmost importance to reach the whole country with this technology as soon as possible, so we are moving quickly and according to a demanding deployment plan for our customers to live the best 4G experience,” , said Araya.

[

“We are sure of the impact that this service will have for our customers and for the country, in view of the explosive growth of the 4G service, which until now has only been available through the network in the 2,600 MHz band” , the executive said.

Araya also detailed that of the total number of phones in Entel’s customer base, more than 70% are already smartphones. According to the latest public data provided by the company, it has more than 800 thousand users with smartphones that support 4G in the 700 MHz band and will be able to benefit from a significantly superior experience.

Regarding the devices compatible with LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation, he clarified that initially more than 100 thousand Entel users will have access to this technology. However, he recalled that this figure is still more than three times the number of 4G subscribers with which they launched their network over the 2,600 MHz band in March 2014, when they were already leaders in this technology. He assured that they project a significant penetration of this in the company’s customer base.

Advanced applications

Entel’s Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs emphasized that the benefits of the 700 MHz network deployment will go beyond telecommunications.

[

“The early deployment of this network is essential not only to regain technological leadership in the region, but also to provide the platform for the development and deployment of advanced applications. For example, the provision of remote medical services, or telemedicine, will benefit tremendously, as improved navigation will enhance medical consultations through videoconferencing and real-time remote medical diagnosis, among others. In addition, distance learning, teleworking and the implementation of smart cities in Chile will be strengthened. The technologies associated with these trends will perform better when 4G is operating at full capacity”, he said.
