The company, which has just joined the Pan American and Parapan American Games to contribute to its connectivity and carbon neutrality, ranked third in the first version of the index prepared by the UAI Business School and the Brinca consultancy firm.

Entel’s efforts to advance in its commitment to sustainable development as one of its pillars was recognized in the first Corporate Sustainability Ranking of IPSA firms, where it obtained third place and was the only telecommunications company to receive an award.

The index, developed jointly by the Business School of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and the consulting firm Brinca, seeks to promote standards in social, environmental and corporate governance (ESG) matters. To this end, they designed a sustainability measurement model, based on the latest corporate reports, which weighted good practices in these matters. The objective: to generate a set of actionable recommendations to promote sustainability and innovation in the Chilean business ecosystem.

Entel’s path with sustainability began in 2005 with the delivery of its first reports, which after years of work, managed to be consolidated in an integrated report, published for the first time in 2020. Then, in 2021 it issued the first international sustainable bond of the industry in Chile for US $800 million with the objective of financing infrastructure and essential services, linked to digital inclusion and innovation in the local market. In addition, it has developed outstanding projects such as the ecological simcard, which were manufactured with 100% recycled plastic. On the other hand, the Reutiliza por Chile campaign, which in its 4-year history has collected more than 70 tons of unused electronic devices, making it possible to donate thousands of reconditioned devices to low-income students in different regions of the country. In addition, during the next Pan American and Parapan American Games, it will distribute 11 thousands of these ecological simcards to ensure the connectivity of athletes and event workers and, at the same time, help in the effort to make it a carbon neutral event.

“The integration of the sustainability strategy with our business model has been a progressive learning and maturing process. The award in this ranking reinforces our conviction to continue advancing along the right path, and at the same time challenges us to go much further in the integration of social and environmental sustainability and our corporate governance into Entel’s business strategy”, said Entel’s Sustainability and Communications Manager, Francisca Florenzano.
