Emergency roaming in damaged locations and the reactivation of mobile services suspended for non-payment, were some of the actions implemented by the company to keep connected the people affected by the bad weather in the regions of O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble and Biobío.

Thousands of people in the central-southern part of the country were affected by last week’s intense frontal system, which caused floods and rivers to overflow in the central-southern part of Chile. Entel implemented a series of measures to help its customers in the regions of O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble and Biobío to stay connected.

The support plan for the people, institutions and volunteers deployed in the affected territories consisted mainly of:

  1. Reactivation of mobile services suspended for non-payment until September 10.

  2. Implementation of emergency roaming in the affected localities where services were interrupted due to power outages.

In addition, it provided a series of recommendations to make better use of the network in those areas where services have been interrupted:

  • Prefer the use of instant messaging or SMS, to use fewer mobile data.

  • In case of no signal, connect to other networks to make emergency calls to 133.

  • It is important to keep electronic devices charged in case of possible power outages.

  • Disconnect decoders and routers in case of power outages or voltage drops, to avoid damage from overloading.
