The contribution in connectivity, valued at Ch$1,500 million, was made as part of the initiative organized by Fundación Teletón and Fundación Conecta Mayor to support senior citizens throughout Chile.

The technology and telecommunications company Entel donated 80 thousand “Conecta Mayor” plans with 24 months free of charge, within the framework of the campaign “Vamos Chilenos!”, organized by Fundación Teletón and Fundación Conecta Mayor, of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. One of the main objectives of this campaign is to provide resources to enhance the connectivity of older adults and facilitate their access to care channels.

“This contribution is part of a series of donations that we have made from Entel, understanding the role that telecommunications have taken in this health contingency, in which connectivity has been key to keep us connected and, at the same time, to take the social distance that is required. As a technology company, we also understand that the digital world is often complicated, especially for the elderly, and this type of initiative is in line with the campaigns we have developed during these months", says Manuel Araya, Entel’s Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs.

“Vamos Chilenos!” was broadcast on television on September 18 and 19 as part of the Fiestas Patrias, a campaign that seeks to benefit more than 50 thousand senior citizens from the most needy sectors of Chile. The contributions will be used to create the Conecta Mayor Virtual Help and Communication Center, whose objective is to communicate with and accompany senior citizens.

The “Conecta Mayor” plans donated by Entel will provide connectivity to mobile devices that the Foundation will give to these senior citizens, which have a user-friendly interface designed for the elderly in whose development Entel also participated. These devices have applications to communicate and receive assistance from Conecta Mayor’s Virtual Help and Communication Center, its Health Center, Salud Responde, Carabineros, and their close friends and relatives.

Ximena Casarejos, executive director of Fundación Teletón says: “The “¡Vamos Chilenos!” campaign is a reflection of a series of surveys we carried out, where we realized the isolation of vulnerable elderly people. This isolation can be shortened thanks to this Virtual CM that we are going to give them, which is a digital device that allows them, by means of six buttons, to communicate with their close relatives, with the CESFAM, Salud Responde, the Conecta Mayor Foundation and the Carabineros. There will be monitors from the Pontificia Universidad Católica who will teach the beneficiaries how to use it effectively. The elderly have a significant digital gap and with this device we are bridging it”.

A digital space for them

Many times, seniors are left out of the digital sphere. For this reason, in addition to the donations made in the context of the pandemic and this “Go Chileans!” campaign, Entel has developed exclusive channels of attention for them, which help to resolve any doubts they may have.

On the website https://informacioncorporativa.entel.cl/personas-mayores, users can find guides on how to use the Internet and mobile technology, video tutorials to perform different actions with a smartphone, tips to improve and bring the web experience closer and how to use the devices to get the best out of them.

“More and more older adults are daring to use the internet and digital channels. This website aims to be a guide and to resolve any doubts they may have regarding the use of the Internet, how to best use their smartphone and how to take advantage of the benefits of the network”, explains Manuel Araya.

Also, always thinking of providing better service, Entel has provided on the same help site for the elderly, a section focused on possible problems with the smartphone with general recommendations and to check difficulties with calls, battery and network, before they have to take the device to the technical service.
