To answer a call or receive a message on the cell phone, will no longer be something impossible for many people living in different isolated areas of the country, after today, Entel delivered the final phase, of its program “Conectando Chile”.
At the national level, the “Conectando Chile” program was born from Entel’s commitment to increase connectivity in the country, within the framework of the installation of the 700 MHz and 2,600 MHz bands. In total, the program delivered telephony and mobile Internet to 708 isolated localities in all regions of the country. In addition, as part of this project, 373 kilometers of road were also covered, contributing to improving road safety, and 212 rural schools were connected.
Thus, the inhabitants of communities such as Cuisama, in the Tarapacá Region, or Cruz del Sur, in Magallanes, were able to communicate for the first time from their homes.
In the Metropolitan Region, the project provided connectivity to 10 localities that previously did not have voice and mobile Internet services. Some of the beneficiary sectors were El Cruceral in the municipality of Pirque, El Alfalfal in the municipality of San José de Maipo and Pichi in the municipality of Alhué.
“We are very pleased to have completed this great challenge of connecting so many isolated areas of the country. Initiatives such as “Conectando Chile” allow us to advance in our goal of contributing to the development of the communities, working so that people live better connected and improving the quality of life of Chileans. Technology brings us closer and makes us all equal,” said Manuel Araya, Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs at Entel.
This project, which began in 2014 and has just concluded, had two stages: the first consisted of connecting 181 isolated localities throughout Chile under the consideration of the 2,600 MHz band spectrum, while the second stage began in 2015, brought connectivity to another 527 areas with the consideration of the 700 MHz band spectrum. Both phases meant a total investment of USD$ 218 million.
Thus, Entel met the schedule established in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications and Subtel for the connection of these locations, being the telecommunications company that integrated more new areas to the telephone and data network in the country.
