At the 2017 shareholders’ meeting:

US$ 390 million will be allocated to the growth of the Peruvian operation, which is showing very encouraging results.

US$ 200 million will be allocated to the mobile business in Chile during 2017, where it will continue to expand 4G service coverage in the 700 MHz band, with LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology.

Entel announced this morning an important investment plan for US$ 1.8 billion for the three-year period 2017-2019.

According to the company’s President, Juan Hurtado Vicuña, and the CEO, Antonio Büchi, these resources will be allocated to Entel’s strategically defined growth focuses, such as expansion in Peru, the home market and the fiber optic offer and the development of information technologies for companies and corporations.

Of this amount, around US$ 1,210 million will be focused on the development of the operation in Chile and US$ 390 million on the Peruvian market.

“2016 was a good year for Entel, despite strong competition and low economic growth. We took very relevant steps, both in Chile and Peru, to be able to fulfill our promise to deliver to our customers the most modern and reliable network in Latin America, as well as products and services that ensure a distinctive consumer experience,” highlighted Entel’s president.

[

He stated that the important challenges that the company will face in the coming years “require us to continue investing. This is the only way we will be able to continue growing in Peru and strengthen and sustain our leadership position in Chile in the different business segments with the best service for our customers”.

Entel’s president recalled that as of December 2016, the customer base in Peru grew by 54%, and assured that as of today they already have more than five million customers “with the most extensive and modern 4G network in the country”. Entel has almost quadrupled the number of stations, from 800 to 3,031 since it bought Nextel in 2013.

[

“Our aspiration is to cement the positioning we have hard-won in Peru and to be a significant operator, with an offer with high service quality and a focus on the consumer experience of the customers. In fact, of our total base, almost two million are subscription customers, which is already equivalent to the proportion of postpaid customers we have in Chile. And since we launched our brand in October 2014, we went from a market share of 5.5% to almost 15% at the end of 2016,” Hurtado Vicuña assured.

Regarding the operation in Chile, Entel’s CEO, Antonio Büchi, said that the strategy aims to grow in services for the Home market, both wireless over 4G and fiber optics, and in services over fiber and information technologies for Companies and Corporations.

[

“In the rest of the segments and services, in which we face significantly more mature industries, the goal is to sustain market share, consolidate our 4G+ network, and in the future with 5G, as well as to advance in the total digitalization of our company,” Büchi added.

Regarding the latter, he informed that Entel’s digital transformation project requires an investment of around US$ 200 million in the three-year period 2017-2019, in Chile and Peru.

He also said that the organizational changes announced in March, including the creation of the Vice-Presidency of Transformation and Business Support, seek to align the structure and culture within the company with the challenges imposed by increasingly digital and demanding clients, and a renewed telecommunications industry, strongly oriented to data services, fixed and mobile, and information technologies. In addition to this, he added, there is a dynamic of competition in the market with shorter cycles, which forces Entel to be even more agile, digital and efficient.

Mobile investment in 4G+ network

Regarding investments for 2017, the projected investment is US$ 160 million in Peru and US$ 425 million in Chile, of which US$ 200 million will be allocated to the mobile business, where they will continue to expand the coverage of 4G services in 700 MHz band, with LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology. This refers both to the project committed in the bidding process and the additional 40% that will be deployed as a strategic decision of the company to further strengthen its service.

[

Büchi stated that “we knew that it was extremely important to reach the whole country with this technology as soon as possible, so that at the end of 2016 70% of the population already had access to 4G technology in the 700 MHz band, and in March this year, we already had nationwide 4G+ service coverage, six months earlier than the bidding conditions set forth”.

[

“We are already leaders in this technology with more than two million 4G subscribers as of December 2016, and we are convinced that the implementation of this network has allowed us to make a qualitative and quantitative leap in the data service we deliver to our customers,” highlighted Entel’s CEO.

In relation to the mobile segment in Chile, Entel closed 2016 as the industry leader, with a market share of 32.9%, which rises to 37.3% if only the segment of postpaid customers is considered - “which are those with the highest value and the group that has grown the most at the industry level”, pointed out Büchi - and to 32.1% if only users with 4G service are considered.

[

In relation to the 2016 results, Antonio Büchi, assured that the company paid special attention to sustainable and focused growth, considering that they faced a highly competitive environment and strong economic contraction in Chile. “During last year, Entel’s revenues, excluding Entel Peru, remained flat, with a slight drop of 1% compared to 2015, however, the corresponding EBITDA grew by 4%,” he commented.

As the executive detailed, the company continued to successfully execute its strategy, improving its mobile data offering and growing in the areas of new services that they said were the focus of expansion, in its integrated voice, data and IT solutions for the Enterprise and Corporate segments, together with the expansion in its Entel Hogar services.
