• US$ 1.48 billion of these will be allocated to the operation in Chile and US$ 480 million to the growth of Entel Peru, where the customer base already exceeds seven million users and the market share is close to 20%.

• During 2018, US$ 280 million will be allocated to the mobile business in Chile, mainly to the expansion of 4G services in the different spectrum bands.

The mobile business in Chile and the development project in Peru are the priorities of the important investment plan announced this morning by Entel for the three-year period 2018-2020.

As informed by the company’s president, Juan Hurtado Vicuña, and CEO, Antonio Büchi, Entel plans to invest close to US$ 2 billion over the next three years, of which US$ 1.48 billion will be allocated to the operation in Chile and US$ 480 million to Peru.

[

According to Hurtado Vicuña, of the total for the year, US$ 280 million will be allocated to the mobile business in Chile, “where we will continue to expand 4G services to keep pace with the large growth in the volume of data consumed by our customers”.

[

Of the investment in Peru, US$ 130 million will be used to increase 4G coverage with the installation of new antennas. “We will also continue to advance in the development of our network in regions and in the deployment of the 700 MHz band,” he said.

Regarding the Home business, the Entel president pointed out that the investment in 2018 will be US$ 110 million in Chile and US$ 30 million in Peru, either with a wireless offer on Massive Mimo technologies, “pre 5G” or on fiber optics.

[

He clarified that these figures contain the investment in the digital transformation project, “in which we will continue to advance and deepen transversally in the company, with an investment in the year of US$ 86 million for both countries.”

[

“Our transformation project, towards a more agile and digital company, is very important in the business strategy and is already affecting our ability to grow, the customer experience, as well as efficiency. Proof of this is the impact it has had on our mobile business, in the prepaid segment, where we have seen improvements in several dimensions since its implementation at the end of last year” said Juan Hurtado Vicuña. He also highlighted that 77% of all interactions they have with individual clients are carried out through digital channels.

[

“2017 was a year of significant progress for Entel, despite facing a highly competitive environment and with a macroeconomic scenario of low dynamism, in Chile and Peru,” he said.

[

Regarding the development strategy, he reiterated that the growth focuses are to continue growing in Peru and to boost the offer of fixed services to the home, either with fiber optic or wireless services on “pre 5G” technologies, and in the future 5G. In addition, they aim to capture the growth of IT and digital services for companies and corporations. “In the rest of the segments, where we face significantly more mature industries, we aim to sustain our leadership,” he detailed.

Project in Peru

Regarding the operation in Peru, the company’s CEO, Antonio Büchi, assured that as of March this year they already have more than seven million customers and that the substantive growth of 2017, in which they added more than 1.7 million customers to the total customer base, allowed Entel Peru to continue driving the company’s consolidated results.

[

“The project in Peru is long-term and we are very pleased with the results to date. Losses have been progressively decreasing and are those that correspond to the development stage of the business, in a competitive environment, and with the growth we have,” said Büchi.

According to the executive, since they entered this market they have quadrupled the size of their mobile network and are a leading operator in 4G service coverage. He also pointed out that they have a well-positioned brand and the appropriate spectrum to develop a long-term offer.

What is certain is that in just over three years, since the brand was launched at the end of 2014, Entel rose from a 7% market revenue share to over 20%.

[

“Peru continues to be the market where we see the greatest potential for growth, with a telecommunications industry that offers us attractive opportunities, such as the world of individuals, in prepaid and micro and small businesses that are emerging in the country,” he said.

Operation in Chile

[

Antonio Büchi said that last year they continued to expand the mobile data offer in Chile, “based on the national deployment of our 4G+ network, infrastructure capacity and brand preference; at the same time we advanced in the digital transformation of the company to improve the customer experience and increase the efficiency of processes”.

[

The executive highlighted that, despite the highly competitive environment, at the close of 2017 Entel remained the leader in the mobile market. “This is reflected both in revenues and in customer satisfaction, brand preference and customers. In particular, in postpaid clients, those with the highest value in the industry, we lead with a 35.6% market share, as well as in the 4G client segment, according to Subtel data,” he stressed.

In addition, he highlighted the substantial improvement in the mobile offering they made in August last year, which, added to the solid infrastructure deployed and the digital transformation project, allowed them to return to positive levels of net portability in subscription customers.

[

“The launch of this new offer was possible thanks to the strong investment we have made in the national deployment of the 4G network, which consolidated us as the operator with the most robust infrastructure in the country,” assured Büchi.

[

According to Entel’s CEO, 2017 was also a year of infrastructure preparation for future growth. “The deployment of fiber optics, which has continued in the areas with the highest density of clients, will be relevant for the growth of the Home and Business segments,” he pointed out.

Regarding the wireless offer to the home, he said that at the end of last year they began to deploy the new Massive Mimo technology over the 3,500 MHz band, which can be described as “pre-5G”, which was launched in February in the municipality of Renca.

[

“With the use of this spectrum and new technology, we estimate that in a few years, more than two million homes will have coverage of this high-speed wireless home internet service. This new challenge puts Entel at the forefront of the world, with state-of-the-art technology and extensive infrastructure” , emphasized Büchi.
