Reported at the Shareholders’ Meeting:

Of the investment in Chile, US $350 million will be allocated to the mobile business, mainly to the commercial deployment of its 5G network and the strengthening of the 4G network, in order to maintain leadership during this technological transition.

The Shareholders’ Meeting held this morning also included the renewal of the Board of Directors. The board, chaired by Juan Hurtado Vicuña, now includes Luz Granier and Carla Brusoni, and is completed by Luis Felipe Gazitúa, Bernardo Matte, Richard Büchi, Juan José Mac Auliffe, Andrés Echeverría and Enrique Gundermann.

Continuing with its strategy of strengthening where Entel makes a difference, the technology and telecommunications company reported details of its investments for this year, after the Ordinary Shareholders’ Meeting.

“2022 was a very important year for Entel. In addition to completing the first stage of the deployment of our 5G network associated with the tender, we took decisive steps in our goal of being a company that is lighter in assets, agile, sustainable and with the ability to adapt to the business strategy. We are focusing our efforts and resources where we really make a difference, as is the mobile business and its technological evolution, in our internet service to the home, and in offering digital services to companies and other public and private institutions,” , said Entel’s general manager, Antonio Büchi.

Last year, Entel sold its data centers in Chile and Peru to Equinix, and reported the agreement to sell its Fiber Optic network to ON*NET Fibra, after approval by the National Economic Prosecutor’s Office (Fiscalía Nacional Económica).

Regarding the investment plan in Chile, the executive said that “our promise is to deliver the best and most consistent browsing experience in the mobile market. For that, it is essential that we have very robust and reliable 4G and 5G networks, which requires an additional investment effort in these years of technological transition”. For this reason, he explained that almost US $350 million will be allocated to the mobile business in Chile.

In addition, he said that with this investment, added to the deployment of the 5G network throughout the country “we will advance in our goal of consolidating ourselves as leaders in this new technology as well, as we have been to date in 4G, always concerned with delivering the best experience to our customers”. In fact, by the end of 2022 Entel was leading the 5G mobile connections market with a 44.3% share. In this period, the rapid adoption of this technology has been evident, since only 10 months after its commercial launch, the company reached one million 5G users, which took 19 months for 4G and 57 months for 3G.

On the other hand, the company informed that it would invest more than US$ 80 million in the Home business in the country, mainly in the connection of new homes with fiber optics, which is one of Entel’s strategic pillars of growth. According to Büchi, “with Entel’s access to the shared fiber optic network owned by ON*NET, we will be able to reach almost 4 million homes in the country with a very competitive offer, instead of the 1.2 million that we reach today. The goal is to reach in a few years between 25% and 30% market share in the home internet business, and this operation makes it possible”. .

Entel Peru
Regarding investments in Peru, he highlighted that close to US $150 million will be allocated to the mobile business, focused on increasing capacity and quality of its 4G and 5G network.

“Peru continues to be a market where we see great potential for growth, it offers attractive opportunities for the telecommunications industry, and we keep our growth objective, supported by a valued brand and a first-class service, winner for nine consecutive years of the ‘Best Customer Experience’ index in telecommunications. By December 2022, we will have surpassed 10 million mobile users, reaching a 24.8% market share, which is 1.4 percentage points higher than at the end of 2021. Our challenge is still to reach 30% market share”, said Büchi.

Board renewal

As planned, Entel’s new board of directors was elected at this morning’s Shareholders’ Meeting, with the addition of Luz Granier, a commercial engineer from Universidad de Chile and former Undersecretary of Social Services (2010-2014), as an independent director - replacing Jorge Salvatierra - and Carla Brusoni, a commercial engineer from Universidad Católica, with more than 20 years of experience in the financial sector, replacing Patricio Parodi.
