Investment of US$170 million:

• During 2016, the telecommunications company delivered mobile telephony and internet services to more than 280 of the 549 locations committed to throughout the country as part of the second stage of its ‘Conectando Chile’ program, ahead of the original deadline of March 2017.

• The initiative corresponds to the considerations established in the public tender of the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications for the use of the 700 MHz band.

Entel’s “Conectando Chile” (in English “Connecting Chile”) is part of the considerations established in the Chilean government’s public tender for the use of the 700 MHz band, which is currently more than 50% complete, with more than 280 isolated locations delivered during 2016 out of a total of 549.

This important news was announced by the company, together with the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, at the inauguration ceremony of connectivity services in the town of La Suiza, in the municipality of San Clemente, Maule Region.

The inauguration was held at the Salesian Colony establishment in the commune of San Clemente, and was attended by the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Rodrigo Ramirez; the Mayor of San Clemente, Juan Rojas Vergara; the Seremi of Transport and Telecommunications (s), Pedro Orosco and the Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs of Entel, Manuel Araya.

“Chile needs a Digital Matrix to address the problems of the future. We are a model for what is being done later in the countries of the region. Today’s citizens need certainties, and today in our society these certainties refer to being connected and communicated. For people, connectivity is a basic service. Today there is a lot of digital inequality, and we must work to overcome it, especially in areas where the market is not interested in delivering its services, so today I am very happy to inaugurate, together with the neighbors, digital connectivity in San Clemente”, said the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Rodrigo Ramirez.

Entel is investing around US$ 170 million in this program, which will benefit more than 85,000 Chileans. This year, the regions of Coquimbo, Valparaíso, O’Higgins, Maule, Biobío, Araucanía, Los Lagos, Magallanes and Los Ríos, already have more than 50% of their isolated localities with connectivity services available.

[

Regarding the importance of this milestone, Manuel Araya, Entel’s Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs, commented that, “we are very proud that more than 50% of the isolated localities in the country, committed in this second stage of our “Conectando Chile” program, already have telecommunications services in advance. Thanks to this project, thousands of people, no matter where they live, will have access to this technology for the first time, and will not have to travel to urban centers to access telephone and mobile internet services, which will have a positive impact on their lives.”

Araya indicated that the second stage of the “Conectando Chile” program will also provide connectivity to 212 schools and 373 kilometers of roads, as part of the additional obligations considered in the 700 MHz band tender.

[

“Initiatives like this allow us to advance in our goal of working so that people live better connected and thus contribute to the development of communities and the improvement of the quality of life of people, through the reduction of the digital divide, in a world where technology brings us closer and makes us equal” , emphasized Entel’s Manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs.
