Incentivizing recycling in the population is the goal of the Recyclápolis Foundation and Entel, which today, as part of its campaign “Reciclaje electrónico para Chile”, added 20 electronic recycling containers in the municipality in Santiago.
Previously, 100 containers had already been deployed in the Metropolitan Region, of which 10 had been distributed in the municipality of Santiago, with a capacity of 360 liters each. On this occasion, 20 of these new recycling bins will be deployed in various educational institutions of the municipality, while the remaining two will be installed in the Subdirection of Environment of the capital’s municipality.
The containers will be used to collect electronic waste in the following categories: cell phones and accessories (cables, chargers, headphones, etc.), printer ink cartridges and compact discs.
Another of the announcements made at the delivery of these additional containers was the implementation of a system for locating the recycling depots, available on the Entel application.
“We want to encourage recycling from the early years, that is why we are installing these garbage cans in the schools of the municipality that are going to allow us to get rid of old technological devices in a safer way for the planet,” said Felipe Alessandri, mayor of the municipality of Santiago.
“For Entel, the development of the country and the care of the environment go hand in hand, so our responsibility goes beyond our operations. We are very pleased with the reception that this initiative has had in the city and, therefore, we wanted to increase our reach, providing more containers for Santiago,” said Manuel Araya, manager of Regulation and Corporate Affairs of Entel.
Fernando Nilo, founder of the Recyclápolis Foundation, commented:“For the Recyclápolis Foundation, it is an environmental challenge to be here today, at kilometer zero, to implement and launch a new electronic recycling infrastructure for Santiago. Today, we are inaugurating new recycling containers in educational institutions, kindergartens and iconic places of our Capital”.
Thanks to this initiative, which so far has been carried out in the regions of Arica and Parinacota, Tarapacá, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Metropolitan, O’Higgins, Biobío, Araucanía and Los Ríos, more than 13 tons of electronic waste have already been collected and 637 containers have been deployed throughout the country.
