As part of “Reciclaje electrónico para Chile” project (in English “Electronic Recycling for Chile”), Entel and Fundación Recyclápolis will deliver 70 recycling containers -of 360 liters each- at various points in the city.

The containers will be used to recycle technological waste such as cell phones, printer ink cartridges and compact discs, among others.

Incentivizing recycling practices in the population is what Recyclápolis Foundation and Entel are looking for, which today kicked off the “Reciclaje electrónico para Chile “ campaign in the city of San Fernando.

The purpose of this initiative is to promote electronic recycling practices through the distribution of 70 containers, each with a capacity of 360 liters, in various parts of the city, such as schools, health centers and public institutions.

“For Entel, the development of people and the environment go hand in hand. Therefore, our responsibility must go beyond our operations. We are committed to connecting people with a cleaner and better world, so that future generations can enjoy a more sustainable country” , explained Patricia Muñoz, Entel’s Director of Sustainability and Communities.

The containers will be used to collect electronic waste in the following categories: cell phones and accessories (cables, chargers, headphones, etc.), printer ink cartridges and compact discs.

“Recycling has always been important to us. Since 2007, the municipality has had a Recycling Program in agreement with CONAF, which consists of collecting paper, glass, plastics, among other items, in schools, businesses and institutions. In this sense, signing this cooperation agreement with the Recyclápolis Foundation is very important, as it reinforces our management in this area. In addition, it will allow us to expand the service with containers for the collection of electronic items such as cell phones, chargers, CDs and DVDs”, said the mayor of San Fernando, Luis Berwart.

[

Fernando Nilo, founder of the Recyclápolis Foundation, commented: “Today we begin the ninth stage of our campaign “Reciclaje electrónico para Chile” here in the city of San Fernando. Thanks to this initiative, the municipality is more sustainable than yesterday. All this is possible thanks to the support of our strategic ally Entel, the sponsorship of the Municipality of San Fernando and the collaboration of Masisa and Recycla. This is why I invite you to continue working towards the sustainable Chile we all yearn for”.

Thanks to this initiative, which so far has been very successful in the regions of Tarapacá, Metropolitan, Valparaíso, Biobío, Araucanía, Coquimbo and Los Ríos, more than 11 tons of electronic waste have already been collected.

In addition to O’Higgins, during 2017 this campaign will be replicated in other regions of the country, with the intention of ending the year with the deployment of electronic recycling containers throughout Chile.

Recyclápolis will be in charge of removing the electronic waste collected in the containers and its proper disposal or recycling, as appropriate.
