This weekend is the newly renamed Cultural Heritage Day. This date represents one of the most important cultural events in the country, in which various historical sites are open to the public, free of charge.
Entel wanted to join the initiative once again, offering a Virtual Tour of its renowned Entel Tower. It is a totally free online tour, which will be available to all those who want to participate in this celebration from the comfort of their homes or wherever they are, without the need to be in the capital to know this emblem of Santiago.
All you need is a tablet, smartphone or computer and the Virtual Tour link to enjoy the interior of the building, details of its history and an impressive view of Santiago from the heights of this iconic tower inaugurated in 1974.
As you walk through the building, some symbols are reflected on the screen that allow users to go through the different spaces with the help of the cursor. Just click on the part you want to know and see all around, and read and listen to the history of each place through a virtual guided tour.
Almost 50 years of history
The Entel Tower is located in the civic center of Santiago and is one of the most emblematic buildings of the capital due to its great height of almost 130 meters, being for many years the tallest in Chile.
Its construction began in 1970, as a result of the need for a stronger and more modern microwave communications system, capable of withstanding earthquakes. The initial idea with which the architects were summoned was to build what would be “the Chilean Eiffel Tower”. In the end, its shape did not resemble this French building, but rather made reference to a torch, one of the first forms of communication in antiquity. And so it became one of the city’s most famous icons.
This attractive telecommunications tower was completed in 1974 and since then has become a landmark in Santiago, due to its height and the possibility of viewing it from different parts of the city. In addition, thanks to its height and panoramic perspective, you can enjoy clear days with an unparalleled view of the mountains.
