This morning, the Escuela Básica Puelmapu in Peñalolén became the first 4G school in Chile, which will allow it to increase access to technology for its students and better develop their learning skills. D Likewise, this new infrastructure will promote the development of teaching skills and different curricula.
This initiative, the result of an alliance between Entel and the Fundación Oportunidad Para Transformar Educando (OPTE), fulfills a fundamental goal that the school has been pursuing for years: reducing the digital divide. The school will now have a lab with 30 tablets, 8 notebooks, equipment for the teachers’ room, and three-phase wiring that will allow the school to have an optimal Internet connection.
“For us, this school is an example of how information technology can be put at the service of people, in this case education. As Entel, we are proud to contribute to the development of the Puelmapu school and the children who attend it,” said Antonio Büchi, General Manager of Entel.
“With the launch of the 700MHz band, we have positioned ourselves as the first telecommunications company in the country to offer its customers a 4G network that provides a ubiquitous navigation experience,” added Büchi.
In the last 10 years, the Puelmapu school has made significant progress, increasing its enrollment from 70 to 280 students and improving its SIMCE scores by more than 120 points, reaching the national average.
Mónica van Gindertaelen, Director of the OPTE Foundation, said: “Today we are taking another step forward thanks to this alliance with Entel. The 4G technology in our classrooms will allow us to support the educational work of the teachers and improve the learning of our students.”
Among the main benefits that the students and teachers of Puelmapu School will enjoy with this cutting-edge technology are higher browsing speeds compared to current networks, as well as a range of multimedia applications that they will be able to access quickly and easily, especially for academic use.
