As part of the “Electronic Recycling for Chile” project, Entel and the Recyclápolis Foundation will distribute 40 bins - of 360 liters each - at various points in the region.

The containers will be used for recycling technological waste, such as cell phones, accessories, printer ink cartridges and compact discs.

Incentivizing electronic recycling practices is what Recyclápolis Foundation and Entel are looking for, which today kicked off the “Electronic Recycling for Chile” campaign in the Los Ríos Region.

The purpose of this initiative is to encourage electronic recycling practices through the deployment of 40 containers, each with a capacity of 360 liters, which will be distributed at various points such as schools, health centers and iconic places in Valdivia.

“For Entel, the development of people and the environment go hand in hand. Therefore, our responsibility must go beyond our operations, as we are committed to connecting people with a cleaner and better world, so that the next generations will have a more sustainable future,” explained Katherine Martorell, Entel’s Director of Sustainability and Communities.

The containers will be used to collect electronic waste in the following categories: cell phones and accessories (cables, chargers, headphones, etc.), printer ink cartridges and compact discs.

“Four years ago we began working in Valdivia to transform ourselves into a sustainable municipality that allows development on a human scale and where environmental protection plays a fundamental role. We are convinced that this is a cross-cutting effort that requires the participation of different actors and for this reason we are grateful for the support of Entel and the Recyclápolis Foundation”, said Omar Sabat, Mayor of Valdivia.

[

Fernando Nilo, founder of the Recyclápolis Foundation, commented: “We are deeply pleased to implement in this sixth stage of the Electronic Recycling for Chile program, the donation of this new infrastructure for the recycling of electronic waste in an iconic municipality of southern Chile such as Valdivia, we are confident that these 40 containers will be a great support for the city”.

Thanks to this initiative, which has been carried out with great success in the Metropolitan, Valparaíso, Biobío, Araucanía and Coquimbo regions, more than 10 tons of electronic waste have been collected. Of these, 7.8 tons correspond to batteries, two to cartridges and CDs, and the rest to cell phones and accessories.

In addition to Los Ríos, during 2017 this campaign will be replicated in other regions of the country, with the intention of ending the year with the deployment of electronic recycling containers throughout Chile.

Recyclápolis will be in charge of removing the electronic waste collected in the containers and its proper disposal or recycling, as appropriate.
