Incentivizing electronic recycling practices is what Recyclápolis Foundation and Entel are looking for, which today launched the “Electronic Recycling for Chile” campaign in Puerto Montt.
The purpose of this project is to encourage electronic recycling practices through the deployment of 40 containers, each with a capacity of 360 liters, in various areas of the city, such as schools, family health centers and neighborhood councils.
“For Entel, the development of the country and care for the environment go hand in hand, so our responsibility goes beyond our operations. That is why we want to connect Chileans with recycling and responsibility for their waste, so that future generations can live in a more sustainable country,” said Felipe Simonsohn, Entel’s Director of Public Affairs and Institutional Relations.
The containers will be used to collect electronic waste corresponding to the following categories: cell phones and accessories (cables, chargers, headphones, etc.), ink cartridges and toners, and compact discs.
“With this type of initiative, the municipality of Puerto Montt reaffirms its commitment to environmental sustainability. We must remember that since this year we have a new Pladeco, which has a strategic axis of Territory and Environment. Likewise, this type of initiative is in addition to the clean point for electronic waste that we have in Mirasol, which annually collects approximately 25 tons, which are no longer sent to the landfill”, said the mayor of Puerto Montt, Gervoy Paredes.
Claudia Vidal, Communications Director of Recyclápolis Foundation, commented that “We are very pleased to implement in this 15th stage of the Electronic Recycling for Chile program, the donation of this new infrastructure for recycling electronic waste. Specially in an iconic municipality of southern Chile such as Puerto Montt; we are confident that these 40 containers will be a great support for the city”.
Thanks to this initiative, which so far has been carried out in the regions of Arica and Parinacota, Tarapacá, Atacama, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Metropolitana, O’Higgins, Del Maule, Biobío, Araucanía, Los Ríos, Aysén and Magallanes, more than 13 tons of electronic waste have been collected and more than 800 containers have been deployed.
