With the aim of encouraging electronic recycling practices, the Recyclápolis Foundation and Entel today launched the “100 contenedores para Chile” campaign in Concepción.
The objective of this initiative is to encourage electronic recycling practices through the deployment of a hundred containers of 360 liters capacity each, which will be distributed in different areas of the Biobío Region, such as schools, family health centers, museums and iconic places.
“Entel is committed to the people and the environment of our country, as we understand that our responsibility must go even beyond our operations. Our mission is more than technological connectivity. It is connectivity between people and, of course, contributing to generate a cleaner and better world so that next generations will have a more sustainable future”, explained Katherine Martorell, Entel’s Director of Sustainability and Communities.
In the containers that will be delivered in this campaign, which has been carried out with great success in the Metropolitan Region and Valparaíso, electronic waste can be collected in the following categories: cell phones and accessories (cables, chargers, headphones, etc.), ink cartridges and toners, and compact discs.
María Andrea Muñoz Araya, Governor of Concepción, commented: “This public-private agreement is very important to carry out a permanent practice of electronic waste recycling. The invitation is to promote this culture and to dispose of the garbage we have in our homes, placing it in the containers that will be implemented in different parts of the region”.
“It is a source of pride for Fundación Recyclápolis to implement a new electronic recycling infrastructure in Concepción. This milestone will make it possible for the citizens of this great region to incorporate cell phone recycling as a common practice and habit in their daily lives” , said Fernando Nilo, founder of the Recyclápolis Foundation.
The campaign is sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment and Masisa. Meanwhile, Recycla Chile will be responsible for the removal of the electronic waste collected in the containers and its proper disposal or recycling, as appropriate.
